Can we admit that Church is terrible in space yet?

Exactly, he was completely turned around which is something you do not do against any WR, especially with some speed. He lost valuable space just trying to get his bearings back and was totally beat right after that. Obviously I am no expert, but common sense says if you are not going to bump the guy, then just face him all the way and run with him. Not only was it bad technique, but no speed. Bad combo.

this was a bad play all around, Carter should probably be on the RB in the flat who is wide open and Scandrick doesn't know where he is. But hey, at least we probably had Megatron covered.

Scandrick started the play on the weakside and Wilbur was on the slot (tate).

I'm telling you, it was a weird play call in teh first place.

People can talk about the negatives of Church and Wilcox's game but fact is, they are about as good as what most teams throw out there in this league. Chances are whoever you replace them with will be as good or worse. Sure it would be great to have Earl Thomas back there but there's only one Earl Thomas and one Cam Chancellor. There's Eric Berry......who i'm not sure if he'll play again or what.

I agree. I think Church/Wilcox are closer to the norm around the league than most fans realize. Sure we could do better at S but I think we have more pressing needs to address first like DL and CB before S.

It's funny to see Church getting bashed for not being able to guard one of the league's better WR's on a double move, yet no one wants to talk about Wilcox not helping out when he was playing the deep half. If you want to point the finger, both safeties deserve blame on that poorly designed call.

Church is league average at worst. Wanting to replace him is like wanting to replace T-Will as the #2 receiver.

Do both players have warts? Yeah. Could you upgrade? Yeah.

Is it a position of NEED? No.

A lot of them were slipping and sliding early but what really frustrates me is how these guys don't understand that you look at the runners hips to avoid getting juked every other play, sheesh......

I know he has his legions of supporters but I for one never want to see him taking the deep middle or deep half again.

The Tate TD was an example but they called on him to bracket Megatron several times and the play from 12 yards away technique just isn't going to do.

We need a true FS in the worst way.

Yes we need a true FS, Church can't cover his butt in the cold with his own two hands

Right. The only unit on this team that IMO isn't on par with the rest of the league is our edge rushers. I think our corners are good enough if Carr is playing up to his potential. IF he's going to stink it up then i'll say corner as well.

I'm not asking for a ball hawk. I am asking for a guy that can turn his hips and run with a guy that is 8 yards in front of him. Tate made a mediocre cut and broke Church's ankles.

LOL most safeties and even some corners aren't able to cover that play one on one. If our blitz would have arrived on time and disrupted that play, we wouldn't be in this conversation.

I think our safeties are okay and dependable most of the time. Give this defense a passrush and some of those mistakes you talk about will disappear.
