I know but the local middle school team could have made the playoffs last year. I think this year it's gonna get real.
Idk. NYG and WAS are as good as basically the entire NFC North and South. If one of them goes 9-8 it shouldn't surprise anyone for the East to get 3 teams in again.

Rodgers has decline for sure. , but he was at his peak during the McCarthy years .
jason garrett had a 2016 to 2019 record of 13 ,9 , 10 win regular seasons . So don’t be too enamored by the 12 win streak . The NFC East is a cupcake and the cowboys still lost to GB ans jacksoville and washington. This season will be humbling .
Garrett was never close to back to back 12 win seasons and back to back playoff berths. On top of that when was the last time Dallas won a road playoff game like McCarthy did against Tampa last season.

so one playoff win in 3 years against an inferior tampa team is that impressive ? i do like the win but it is just too little to show . again , the goal is a SB. the team is notwhere near that. the last 2 years were the years to do it with all the talent on the roster. Not sure this year the talent or the schedule will help .

How long ago has it been since Dallas won a road playoff game?

Of course the Superbowl is the goal but to suggest McCarthy was carried by Rodgers is silly..... Unless you're saying Dak is an all time QB carrying McCarthy

we know dak is not elite. rodgers indeed accounted for that win more than MM. it is a QB game more and more. What also helped MM and rodgers is a top level managment at the packers.

Good grief. I think most fans know it’s only one game against the other teams scrubs. But at least they’re showing something.

On the negativity and the hype after only ONE pre season game!!! Let's give these guys some time to fix their mistakes, and not GLOAT in their success in only 1 game. No need to get all mad, it's only the pre season, guy are going to make mistakes. The guys that played good, they may not be as good next game, we can't give up on them after praising them. Let's stay with an even head, it's a long season!!!! Please give your thoughts!!
Quinn was forced to give Mazi more time than the law allows in his first preseason start against Jacksonville and he was borderline horrible! All we've heard about this dude is how physical he is and he got stuffed by Jacksonville's every line change.

There are some conclusions you can draw from just that game though. I love looking at it from a team makeup perspective.

For instance:
1. Lb is no longer scary weak. You may need to replace LVE in a couple years but Clark and Overshown are the next (and probably better versions of) LVE and Kearse.

2. If you really watched the game, Asim Richards is a complete steal in this draft. I’m not saying he’s gonna be an all-pro, but this dudes FLOOR is a reliable backup that’s easily gonna be better than any backup we had last year

3. Tolbert is a #3 caliber receiver minimum. He’s so so good. Watch his catch from today (8/15) in practice…insane. He’s clearly got the ethic to get even better.

4. Mazi isn’t a bust. He’s not gonna be a stats guy, but he’s about where other primo 1T are at this time their rookie season. The guy is insanely strong, and is gonna gobble up 2 OLs all the time.

5. On the other hand, OL will be the top priority in the draft next year unless something crazy happens. Maybe the top 2 priorities.

6. This TE group is gonna be scary good. Ferguson has stepped up way more than I think anyone thought he would

7. I truly believe Deuce will be a match up nightmare. He doesn’t need to pick up blitzes. If they blitz, shoot him out for an impromptu screen and watch the ankles explode

6. Except me. This is exactly 100% what I said about Fergie.

Good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good post. Agree 100%. We can't get too high or too low on anyone this early in the preseason. Lots of time left.
Except Ferguson. I'm all in on him being the next great TE in Dallas.

Maybe I am a fan boy :p

I think Mazi needs to be watched.

He’s one dimensional. Can’t pass Rush.

We don’t have a true 0 tech NT.

Our scheme is 4-2-5 most of the time.

How does a slow DT fits anything?

OP: Let's not place our entire player evaluations and probability for success over the next five years on ONE PRESEASON game.

I saw Mazi take on double team after double team and for more times than not, he handled 'em like the beast that he is, and he's only going to keep getting better. They double team guys like Mazi for a reason.
What game were you watching? Or did you just dislike the Cowboys taking a DT with their 1st round draft pick so much that you just can't give the guy a break?
I watched the replay of the game and paid special attention to Mazi, and he pretty much did exactly what they drafted him to do, and did a good job of it. Players like Mazi, Parsons and Overshown are going to make our defense into a powerhouse.
