Can we really afford to pay Dak 50 million and Micah a huge deal?

That's why Trey Lance is here. They are going to make a change if he craps the bed again in the playoffs.
Sounds nice in theory, but dropping Dak in 2024 would be a $61 million dead cap hit.

They are not going to do that, no matter what happens this season. That would get in the way of paying Micah, and more.

Lance is here for a reason, so when Dak asks for $250 million with no NFC Championship nor SB, he'll be playing in MIA.
If Dallas does nothing Dak's cap hit is $59 million in 2024. If they drop him in 2024 the dead cap hit is $61 million. Neither of those things will happen, because cap hit.

If the goal is to move on from Dak the best hope is Lance looks good to go in 2025 and the Cowboys can eat a $36 million dead cap hit that year. It's the bed they made.

Yes, we all remember those who screamed and cried when Dak got $40 million a year, how the Cowboys couldn't sign anybody else, no team ever paid a qb X% of the cap and won bid, etc. etc. etc.

Yet here we are, Dak's like the 8th highest paid qb in the league and we just won 12 games, signed Diggs and others.

The Chicken Littles here never cease to paint pictures of doom and gloom....
This time next year Dak will be one of the three highest paid QBs in the NFL, after signing for $60 million AAV for three or four years.

This board would not persist without the chicken littles.

Lance is more about develop, feature in PS, and get some value for. We acquired a very high pick who maybe worked in a limiting offense for his skills. Shanny doesn't have a great record with certain types of QBs. Players talk about that.

I think you can when 35 of your 53 man squad is still on their rookie contracts. From there on that cap just keeps getting bigger by the season.
