Can we really go into the season with two change of pace backs as our top two runningbacks

Would rather have him than Malik Davis and Rico Dowdle. It’s not like either one of them lit it up the other day.
If Zeke wanted to come back, in shape and play for the vet min like those two. Sure.

I am more concerned with a back that can block, honestly. We know that is not something TP is good at. Dowdle/Davis haven't had the chance to show it yet and I don't know enough about Jones to say one way or the other. Duece, not a chance.

If Davis or Dowdle doesn't prove they can pick up the blitz consistently, I would not be surprised if Zeke is back. Say what you want about him, but he is the best in the NFL at picking up the blitz and we have a 40 mil QB and nothing much behind him, we have to protect him.

It could very well be TP, Zeke and Duece come game day.

if Davis and Dowdle don’t look better next week, the Cowboys may start looking around for another option. Leonard Fournette is still available. With questions on the OL, running the ball this season could become a real issue.

Continue to play poorly? Where are you getting this from? MM has praised Dowdle. He looked good playing behind a second string OL going against JAX starting defense. Davis didnt do much, but he earned the starting nod.

I dont know how the RJ situation plays out. Maybe they still consider him in the running for RB2. Or they may be considering cutting him. Based on current rotation and common sense, Dowdle and Davis are your two backups. Both are very good special team guys as well.

And if some other team cuts a guy that is an upgrade, Im sure we will be looking into that as well.
Davis had a very poor game, dowdle was better but fumbled and can’t seem to stay healthy. RJ can’t stay healthy either which is why I feel our rb2 may not be on the roster

Give me one team that adds Duece to their 53.
Roughly 12 teams drafted RBs prior to us picking Duece. If any of them wanted him, they could have picked him.
Go look at the rb depth charts for all teams. I have. Duece doesnt make the 53 for any of them.

You are ignoring the fact he has had a good camp and preseason debut.

We need a grinder to get the tough yards and goalline carries. I love Duece and Pollard but they are smaller backs. Can we give Luepke some more opportunities to see what we have.
I think the Cowboys will sign Zeke either right before the season starts or after the 1st game on a team friendly 1 year contract.
This way the Cowboys will get the pass protection and short yardage player we need without paying an obscene amount for him.

I'd rather have young fresh legs instead of a front office still pretending they have a superstar RB. Time to move on. Makes no sense to go back to the same exact situation that killed them last year. What did the line look like on Saturday? What would Zeke have done in that situation? lol. You finally have some players who might actually be able to break more than a 4 yard run.

Guess we didn't watch the same game.
Did you watch the one where we played our second team offense against JAX starting defense?
In that game, Davis started and was fairly ineffective. Dowldle mixed in with him. Had a nice run where he almost scored. But did fumble. Also had a very strong run that you may have missed. It was only a three yard gain, but he ran through and carried a couple guys.
Lets see what happens this week. If Seattle plays their starters as well. I haven't heard if ours will play yet or not.

No one is pretending Zeke is still a superstar, RB. The Cowboys didn’t even trust Malik Davis to carry the ball once against San Francisco when Pollard was injured. The other day he only had 3 yards on four carries. Dowdle didn’t do a whole lot better and had a fumble which cost us points. If things don’t look better next week with those guys, the Cowboys may start looking around.

This is an excellent observation. Dallas doesn't have the three yard, move the chains back. And behind this line, Larry Csonka would struggle.
well since the Oline is so bad, who cares who we have at RB. According to you, we could OJ Simpson from 73 and it wouldnt make a difference.

That's exactly what Jerry does. Any legit competition is completely gone. No way in hell Zeke should even be on the radar even if they were in the market for a vet.

We currently have a legit competition and two of the backs that are competing didn’t perform very well. A lot of backs could be on the radar after next week if Davis and Dowdle don’t step up. Both backs are being given a great opportunity.

Lol. Sure. He had a nice run and a nice catch against scrubs.
Also almost got decapitated, got stopped for a three yard loss and got stopped for a loss on the swing pass.
He also failed to fair catch a punt and let iy bounce for ten yards and returned a KO that he should have downed.
I really, really hope they start him this week. Give him a half. If he shows out even only half of the hype level he gets, he should put on a show.
Someone just needs to convince MM.

A minimum of 3 RBs will be active on game day. While it may not be the 100% ideal way to have your top two both quicker and on the smaller side, as long as one of them can get the tough yards we'll be fine and especially if the OL does their job. I actually thought Pollard did a good job of this last year when asked, but I guess it could be because the defense didn't expect a run when Zeke wasn't in. He seemed to have that ability to hit it quickly and slide through the hole. It can also be helpful when the defense needs to worry about a quicker back getting to the outside as that stretches the defense a little.
