Can't convince me Hurts is better than Dak

It was obvious in the Niners game Hurts kneee really bothering him . His OL gave him massive amounts of time to throw the ball and he couldn’t connect . In the past he would have taken off down field .

David Carr on one of these NFL talk shows went as far as to say a healthy Mariotta in relief might be more effective under center . Dallas has to get better pressure on Hurts make him uncomfortable. Mariotta by the way is what I would consider a competent back up , some of the back ups in the NFL are not NFL caliber .
that was the niners plan, ensuring they take away his running game and force him to stay in the pocket, and sacrifice sacks for limiting his rushing game. they took away the B-gap to limit Hurts from rushing, which is usually where he makes his runs their approach was that Hurts is not good from the pocket specially against their zone defense. and their game plan exposed him. he is not good from the pocket. now, can anybody do it? not sure, you need a SF type DL to pull it off. its not easy. takes a lot discipline.

Hurts is not elite by any stretch of imagination. SF showed how to defend him, but staying disciplined and taking away his running lanes and forcing him to pass from the pocket and he struggled. he has top 5 TE, top 3 WR group, the best OL in foorball and best rushing attack. like I said, take away his running, he is a very medicore passer.
Didn't the 49ers do the same to Dak and our offense? They are an elite defense.

Right now based on last few games Dak has taken the seesaw back and probably better. But Hurts is injured all this year and for whatever reason, his new offense hasn’t clicked midseason the same Dak and McCarthy did.

No matter the numbers, who is better pocket passer, which offense, etc.. object of game is to win. Hurts done a great job of that already taking his team to the Super Bowl.

they are an elite defense. but just saying how they stopped philly..... that's the key stop their rushing game, force them to pass from the pocket and they struggle.

and yes, they put on a pass rush clinic against cowboys and stopped our running game. their zone defense against us was predicated on getting to the QB and creating pressure, which they did. very successfully, forcing us to take sacks, or force throws when there were no passing lanes. their defense is good.

Yeah they don't have to blitz or stunt to control the LOS. And then the linebackers are free to help out the pass defense-- something they do well.

Very sound defense.

But the difference is, Dak can make the throws if given time. Their DL couldn't get to Hurts, so they contained him. SF was able to get to Dak with our porous OL (at least they were at the time-- they've improved).

But I don’t think the 49ers strategy was to get stood up on the line let Hurts have all day to scan the field .

Last two games against the 49ers, Dak had multiple interceptions. Way to beat the 49ers is force them to defend the run and not play extra men in coverage which makes it very difficult to pass.

That is the goal, but not every defense can accomplish it. Dallas is very inconsistent maintaining their gaps against both the run/pass. Must play very displined.

Dak is on a heater but until he does it in the playoffs he’ll have doubters. Hurts got his team within a whisker of a Lombardi. If Dak does he’ll gain a lot of believers.

Stephen A Smith brought up a good point. (i know i know). Does the beating San Fran gave the Eagles illegitimize their NFC championship win? The niners have been saying for a year with Purdy in they would have won that game. After seeing the beatdown they just laid on them with Purdy. I dont think they are wrong. So Hurts while he may have won against San Fran, won against a team that trotted CMC out there for QB snaps. Dak would have won that game too.
It does though. Because at the end of the day the 9ers didn't have a quarterback out there.

So how do you evaluate Rex Grossman?

True.

I always viewed the interceptions as a result of pressure though. Hopefully that pressure can be alleviated if we could ever get a run game going against them.
