The defense yards per carry given up was about the same with Bohanna or Hankins in the lineup. Bohanna just missed a lot of time due to injury.
I thought I read that the average per carry improved once we added Hankins from over 4 per carry to somewhere in the 3.6 range. I could be wrong.

The other DTs weren't as good against the run as those two. They were both good. Not dominant but good.

As I expected Alarcon is coming on super strong so they let Watkins go...

Seriously, Wat was playing good at the end of the season, and the coaches sat Galli and Bo for him and Chauncey in the playoffs, our DT depht is going to be challenged, even with Hank on board.

I hope they take the position seriously for once and get a player or two.

Well, technically we've got the depth to fill his spot, but I do think last season showed that the defensive coaches weren't satisfied with Gallimore and Bohanna, so I do think we'll draft a DT somewhere between the fourth and seventh rounds.

Didn't say I was happy with it. I said how I believe Dallas looks at it. They signed Hankins, so they are covered at starting NT. Odighizuwa is the starting 3-tech. Golston came on as a 5-tech. They are not looking at starters. They are looking at backups, and especially when it comes to NTs, they have shown that they are not going to look early.

I believe the team even gave some praise to Gallimore this offseason, so I don't really know if the Joneses were all that concerned with keeping Watkins. Wouldn't be surprised if his deal is close to the same range as Hankins, which was barely above the minimum.

Plus, I believe their run defense improved quite a bit after acquiring Hankins, so I think they saw him as the key re-signing there.
yep...same way they signed on this Watkins,.. they can sign on another Watkins,..

Hankins isn't a three-down guy and depth matters. Watkins' spot will need to be filled, probably in the draft.
Or probably in the bargain FA vet pool again ...the same way they gain Watkins ..the same way they will acquire another cheap vet bargain Watkins again.

The draft will likely focus on finding another John Ridgeway type in the late rounds who can be groomed to be challenge Quinton Bohanna's roster spot.

Forgot about the Alarcon switch. There's our backup NT depth, says Jerry and Stephen.

Not really. NT Hankins and 3-tech Odighizuwa are the starters and Golston and Gallimore are contributors. We also have Bohanna as the backup NT, but don't think we're too thrilled about that, so we'll take another NT stab late in the draft.
Gallimore is not good...

I dunno, the common perception is that they did well so par this offseason. Theoretically, his was supposed to make their draft less desperate and allow them to draft the best players available.

However, it seems to me that the offseason activities, so far, have only illuminated some needs at key positions. I'm thinking mostly RB and DT, perhaps also TE and G.

Whoever they draft for RB had better be somebody who turns out to be productive.

Oops -- there goes one of the DL guys we had targeted to sign. I'm wondering if we'll look to sign another vet free agent, instead. In any case, it seems like we're likely to put drafting one to a higher priority, if not. Maybe, perchance, we'll select someone a tad better? It could happen!
