Cardinals sign former Cowboys DT Carlos Watkins

Gallimore is not good...
Definitely haven't seen good outside of a few plays, but that one tweet said the Cowboys view him as an ascending player. I don't know if this was the writer's hyperbole or the front office's.

Or probably in the bargain FA vet pool again ...the same way they gain Watkins ..the same way they will acquire another cheap vet bargain Watkins again.

The draft will likely focus on finding another John Ridgeway type in the late rounds who can be groomed to be challenge Quinton Bohanna's roster spot.
Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but pretending I give a hoot about these offseason moves is exhausting.

I care about January and February, everything leading up to it is just white noise after 28 years of Jerryball.

Cowboys D was ranked 24th vs the run last year in run stop win rate. That was with Carlos Watkins around to help. He's gone now. There's a void to be filled. You're happy with what's left and how they ranked 24th out of 32 teams against the run last year but with a key DT player now gone?

That's a bit of a lazy use of stats. A 2% improvement takes us into the top 10 and 1% would make us average. A full season (as opposed to 5 games) of Hankins could go along way achieving that improvement. Im sure we can also find some kind of comparative replacement in the draft.

For all the negativity I read, the team is making good moves, and they will address the DL. Of course, their choices will bring out more negativity, because you can't please everyone. Some look to complain about everything.

Not really. NT Hankins and 3-tech Odighizuwa are the starters and Golston and Gallimore are contributors. We also have Bohanna as the backup NT, but don't think we're too thrilled about that, so we'll take another NT stab late in the draft.
Greatest post of your career

No one fits the term JAG better than Carlos Watkins. I wish him well

So our run defense stinks and you think people are worried that we are not just bringing back one of the guys that helped make us stink?
You have it so wrong and alluding to people being happy with "what's left" at DT because they aren't unhappy to see Watkins go is off base. Perhaps most are just smart enough to know that you can't just bring back the same players and expect better results and the reason they aren't unhappy with losing Watkins is because they want better players than we had in the past, not the same. We want a high draft pick that will excel or a FA (not likely) or trade (maybe deadline acquisition) that will bring us a better player than Watkins. We are tired of having mediocre at best DTs and Watkins was a big part of that.

Carlos Watkins wasn't brought up to play until the month of December and January where he did help make a difference, but you read my opening post all wrong. I am totally for drafting a difference maker of a DT in the 1st or 2nd rounds for the reasons you stated.

Dang I wanted him back he was coming on strong end of last year
Wanted him back too....puts pressure on Gallimore to step up...which isn't a bad thing. Add a rookie in the draft....which might have been the right move all along. Keep stocking the cupboard....keep it fresh.

I thought they needed to address DT early in the draft anyway. It takes a couple of years for DTs to mature at the position in most cases so with Hankins on a 1 year deal, Watkins gone, and Gallimore looking like a jag, they should find a DT now and let him develop. This loss of Watkins amplifies the mistake in exposing Ridgeway to waivers.

What you talking bout Willis?

He played 12 regular season games. The first one October 9th...
