MW, I couldn't have said it any better.MichaelWinicki said:Secondly, I don't think anyone in this thread is complaining about the job Bledsoe has done this year. I said prior to the start of the season if he maintained a QB rating of 85 or better I would be tickled pink... and he has.
This thread has discussed the relative position of Bledsoe in comparison with the all-time greats. It has not been a thread about how bad a QB anyone thinks Bledsoe is.
Just because I think comparing Bledsoe to Aikman is silly does not mean I dislike Drew Bledsoe. I get a little tired of the paintbrush approach to reading.
"Oh, you aren't as high on Drew Bledsoe as I am? I'm going to paint you as a basher."
I do not bash Drew Bledsoe when I say he doesn't measure up with some of the great QBs in NFL History. Frankly I grow tired of having to explain what I mean in minute details. I'm beyond tired of the labels.
He's a good QB who had a good year for us this season. I've never said he didn't. Just don't expect me to annoint him great, even if he wins a Super Bowl, which is anything but a given. There's simply no birthright on winning a Super Bowl, not even as the QB of the Dallas Cowboys. Just ask Danny White.
To me greatness is defined by more than career stats. It certainly isn't defined by a season with his highest QB rating within reach. Ask me what I'd rather have.
1. Drew has a horrible game and misses his personal best QB rating, but we go to the playoffs.
or...
2. Drew has an amazing game, we win, but so do the teams we need to lose, so we miss the playoffs.
I'm going to take #1 each and every season and never think twice about it. My love is the Cowboys, not an individual player. No matter how good he is.
