A Chevy guy, I see! I had an '03 Lightning, did you have any mods to your '04? How do/did you like the raptors? The 2014 still had the 6.2L right? Any thoughts on the newer eco-boost version?

LOL, was going to make a Chevy joke in my post. Was very close to picking up a 2017/18 Chevy SS but at the last second the one I wanted was sold right before I got to the dealer.

Oh man that Lightning was a money pit for me but I loved it. Before I sold it cheap to my brother I had a built short block with a 2.6L Kenne Bell on it with full exhaust. Since then he has added heads/cams to it.

I love the Raptors. Terrible daily drivers and amazing daily's at the same time for me while also being a money pit cause I love to modify vehicles.
I bent the frame slightly on the 2012 offroading. Bought the 13 as it was a Terrain supercab which was my dream combo. Supercharged it with a roush. Then I had kids and the suicide rear doors was a PITA. Sold it.

Two trucks later I'm in a Ruby Red 2014 Raptor approaching 100kmiles. Have about $8k in suspension work as I take it to offroad events throughout the year while still going to work in it.

Yea, the 2011-2014 had the 6.2L. Good down low torque, dependable engines. MPG isn't something Ford ever put too much thought into those engines but I've seen online of guys with 200k-400k on those engines still going strong.
To me the only downside of the 2009-14 F150's are the terrible rocker designs of the body, leading to rust from water getting trapped/sunroof dripping there.

My wife has an ecoboost Expedition, and I've driven ones from the 2.3L to the 2.7 to 3.5 in various rentals or her truck. They to me are good engines, make boost quick and are easy to mod. A bit overrated on the MPG claims. The 3.5L seems to have the cam phaser issues in the standard engine and the high output ones which I'm not sure Ford has ever truly fixed. Not an engine I would care to rock past 100k without really loving the truck itself.
I would of made the upgrade to a Gen 2 or 3 Raptor as I can live with the ecoboost exhaust note as the truck is better and the engine is more mod friendly. Just don't think it's an upgrade I want to do now factoring in pricing.

Really interested in the Bronco Raptor, but seeing how stupid the market is-even more so for the Bronco, I don't care to get into the ADM game to be first to have one.

Avoid Volvo! Overrated money pits!

I was never much for trucks. My area’s more diverse—lots of trucks, but more muscle cars and imports, mostly.

Loved em when they first were release back n da 90’s but these days they’re a one way trip to acid reflux town.

Hope you don’t get offended by all that “vanilla offense” talk after preseason losses! Just throwing that out there!

I have a 3.5 currently. You are correct. They do have cam phaser issues for sure, and, the MPGs are overrated. They are rated for 17mpg city and I get around 15mpg on my current truck. Stock tires on this one. My last F-150 had a mild lift and 35s on it and I was getting around 12.5mpg around town. lol Other than that, my experience is great with them. I have a 7200 lb camper trailer I pull behind mine and she has power all day for it. No problem.

My last F-150 I played with a bit and put a tune on her. She was quick.........for a big truck. It was a great truck but I just wanted a newer year. And something a little bit more stock to tow with.
