Carson Wentz

oh I think there's away to get Elliot an Wentz

I'm sure there is but it is unpredictable

You don't know if someone will be willing to trade down from 18-22 to top of rd 1

If we can get up to 3, that would be sweet. Then, we trade back for several picks, but still stay in the top 10. Trade back a few more spots and get a few more high round picks. Take Carson Wentz. Then use some of those extra picks, plus even our 2017 first to move back into the first and get Elliott. If Michael Thomas is there when we pick in the 2nd, we jump on him.

I haven't watched enough of Wentz to say this with confidence but...

In the couple of games I watched it seemed like he ran a 1 read offense... He'd stare down the primary option, then either throw, check down or run.

I gotta take a closer look, but that doesn't excite me.

I like his athleticism and size. Has a good arm and very mobile. Can make all of the necessary throws.

Problem with him is he's extremely inconsistent. He'll make a good throw with good mechanics on one play, then make a bad throw with bad mechanics on the next. Will show good pocket presence and move in the pocket correctly on one play, then do the exact opposite on the next play.

I would be more okay with it if he was playing tougher competition. But, he's going to need at least 2 years on the bench and I think I will major questions on his accuracy.

Dude...pretty much every college offense is a 1-read system these days. They all throw tons of screens and bubble screens and do a lot of read option and throw. The NFL would be more 1-read, too if the hashmarks were this far apart.

I'm not even the biggest Wentz fan, but I fail to see these QB's that come out of college scanning defenses like Joe Montana.

Just wanted to share my 2 cents in this thread.

I have been to Fargo a few times to watch the Bison play the last 3 seasons.
People in the area have spoken highly of Wentz since he was a backup to Brock Jensen. It was clear then he had an NFL caliber arm and he just needed to wait for his turn in the program. Since he took over as QB he has been a consistent winner and the game never looked too big for him, even with huge expectations to win it all his first year as starter (which they did).

Obviously there is a lot to like with Wentz. He has great size, very strong arm, character/smarts and plays in a real pro style offense. He is more mobile than many people are going to give him credit for. He has a knack for picking up first downs with his legs like Jensen did before him.

He would definitely benefit from a year or two on the pine, but that is exactly what we want if we draft a young QB to groom behind Romo.

To those of you worried he played for a small school, I wouldn't sweat it. NDSU has been playing at high level for several years now (the wins over d1 programs make that pretty obvious). They clearly know how to develop talent. Just look at the guys they have put in the NFL lately like Marcus Williams (Jets) Kyle Emanuel (Chargers) and Billy Turner (Fins). I was hoping we would take a shot at their RB John Crockett as an UDFA last season but the Packers snatched him up.

The thing is we could end up with a top 5 pick. Do we gamble and hope Wentz drops to the second round?

I haven't watched enough of Lynch to say which QB i like more, but I wouldn't be upset at all if we took Wentz in the first or second round.

Great post. It's always good to get an evaluation of a player that has seen more than just youtube highlights. .
