Carter to Bulk Up and Be Used as Nickel Rusher?

Broaddus on Talking Cowboys said that Carter was moving to strong side linebacker and could bulk up and be used as a nickel pass rusher. He mentioned this in reference to Cowboys drafting Mosley. I'm not sure if that's the current Cowboy's plan for Carter or contingency if they draft Mosley.

Carter does have some wheels and might be a good pass rusher.

The fact that it took rod to do this signifies that he's moving in the right direction. Carter is too fast to keep in the middle or Westside and not blitzing. We have to use him in a derrick Brooks mold. Carter will be a good player just ease him into it.

In rod I trust....

Actually, they had him in the Derrick Brooks mold LAST YEAR, and he failed. Brooks was a WLB that made a lot of tackles in the run game, yet excelled in coverage. Brooks only had 13.5 sacks in his 14-year career.

Sooo, isn't that where Wilber and Holoman were projected to fight for the starting spot. If Carter is moved over, we have an opening at one spot and a glut of players at the other side ?

Carter as a rush man during nickel situations sounds about right giving the athleticism and speed he brings too the defense, Rod getting players in position.

Might as well try it because Carter looked terrible as the will. Mosley to mike, lee to will.

They ran a package earlier in the year I remember seeing where Carter did blitz, and he actually got a couple sacks.

But it worked, so they stopped.

About Carter, didn't NC have that cheating scandle last year ? I remember thinking about it at the time, and wondering if that was him at college. That players were not taking classes, tutors were writing their papers etc. Not haveing to go to class. Have heard it rumored that he is "slow" to pick up the defence - but is a great athelete. So, does he get one more year to pick it up, or are they saying he's just not cereberal enough to play ? Thought he was an absolute beast in college, but man - what the hell is going on with him ?

This team will regret it

Only if the guy they pick ends up busting. But if they take a guy like Donald and he turns into a great player, it won't matter what Mosely did.

But frankly, given some of the injury situations surrounding Bama players, if there are reports Mosely might have a knee problem, I'd run. Run fast. There are now two reports out on him wondering about his knee.

Derrick Brooks was a WOLB in a 3-4. He was not a 4-3 WILL.

When did Tampa play a 3-4? They played a 4-3 didn't they?

I don't know of he did or didn't, but he got the vast majority of his tackles and recognition while playing in the Tampa 2

They tried him the Brooks role this past year. I have no idea why he didn't flourish, maybe he would next year in the same role, maybe the line in front of him was so bad it didn't matter.

I do like the idea of him moving forward and attacking.

Maybe they are thinking
WILL = Lee
Mike = Holleman (didn't he play there and do okay when Lee was hurt?)
SAM = Carter

It is curious about Wilbur, he seemed to be doing well, but I'm such an untrained eye - these are armchair QB thoughts.
