I think this new CBA is the start of finally bring a long slow death of the NFL. Have you ever heard the old saying "inmates running the asylum". In both this CBA and the last CBA the players have taken more and more of the decisions previously made by the coaches. Gone with the last CBA are the two a days during training camp. Last CBA dictated how many padded practices which means practices with contact during training camp and then during the season leaving 2 weeks where no pads can be worn during practice. This CBA cuts almost in half the number the number of padded practices in training camp from 28 down to 16 with no increase in padded practices during the season when they go to a 17 game schedule. Both CBA states the maximum length of a practice. Used to be the head coach determined all of these things. They have expanded the number of players on the practice squad starting this season to 12 and starting 2022 to 14 players. They are adding 2 extra players to the active game day roster each week but 1 of those extra players HAS TO BE an offensive lineman. They say that will help with player wear and tear in the game 17 except those at the end of the roster usually only see snaps due to injury. My question is how will they know that the 47th and 48th played added to the game day rooster one of them is an offensive lineman? Then the reduction of a preseason game. Now teams are still going to have to give their starters some live action snaps in preseason so now with just 3 games that means the coaches have just 2 1/2 games to evaluate non-starters in live action snaps and even less padded or contact practices during training camp.

All of these changes are going to lead to a very sloppy NFL season coupled with now offering a participation trophy to one team in each conference to join the playoffs.which means that almost 1/2 of the of the teams will be in the playoffs. Now real NFL fans will continue to hold on watching but many of the casual and fair weather fans will move on to either watching other things or go and do other things during games. Eventually the real fans will start to lose interest. I wouldn't be surprised if the new TV contracts show some of this same kind of thinking and don't end up as big or as long as many think they will be. I think a lot of people will move to just watching college ball. I also think this new CBA will do wonders for the XFL when they start up again next season after the coronavirus thing has died.

If the inmates are the owners then you're right, but the players and retirees got screwed in this new deal.

No, it can’t really be stretched any further. But it’s been a while since the league added franchises. If the league’s growth continues down the road, we could be looking at 14 out of 34 teams...or possibly 36
Intriguing to think about more teams. Which cities (or countries) are most likely to host a new team?
Sports Illustrate posted an article last year about that topic with compelling arguments, though some might be considered tongue-in-cheek. They suggested:
Anchorage
Oklahoma City
San Diego
Portland
Montreal
Austin
I could see a San Diego come back as well as Oakland.

You'd need to trade up. Anyone there at 17 won't be worth the pick.
Probably. Time to start over and trade off some of the question marks.
Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, and Justin Herbert? The Commanders will be competitive if they get one of those guys.

No the inmates are the players. It's obvious that you don't know how that saying applies to things. It's meant that those that work for someone or something are now telling those who they work for how things will be. Decisions that used to be made by the league and/or coaches are now being dictated to by the players. All of the things that the owners gave up control of are is what will cause a steady decrease in the quality of NFL games where eventually the NFL will start to lose more and more viewers. As I said before it will start with the casual or fair weather fans but eventually even real fans will get fed up with how the NFL has digressed to. Between this and the changing of the rules to where the game are headed to flag football I think the NFL will come to a day when they will regret giving up all the control and the changes in the game. At the pace the NFL is going they'll give little pint size trophies as participation trophies to all teams that don't win the Super Bowl that of course after they again change the playoff format to adding not just the 2 teams that already say but when they then add 4 more teams so the "playoff season" is longer.

From USA Today:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...gaining-agreement-changes-details/4878786002/

The major points of the new CBA are:
A 17-game regular season - The players will receive the full prorated value of their contracts, even if it exceeds the actual contract amount.
A shortened preseason - 3 games with a bye after preseason, (still hands off on Labor Day weekend.)
The revenue split - From 47% currently to 48% in 2021 and set to increase up to 48.8%; other major league venues get about 50%.
Drug policy and disciplinary changes - significantly relaxes the rules on drug testing and eliminates suspensions. And, "a neutral decision-maker," to rule on most commissioner discipline cases.
Roster sizes increased - from 53 to 55; game day active roster will be 49; 14 players on practice squad (who get salary increase.)
A new playoff format - six teams per conference to seven, with only the top seed in each conference earning a bye week.

It’s also why college football is so intense. If your team is a clear national title contender, every game is like a playoff game, because one loss can mean your title chances are over.

It also means you only matter or have a chance if you are a top 5 team. Maybe not even that. Some people like that.

I just don't want people saying the only reason Dorance Armstrong set the sack record this year is because of the extra game.
The 17 game schedule is not an option until 2021. We will, however, have a new playoff format with 14 teams.

the tag on Prescott won't last. Its just to keep him a Cowboy while we get a long term deal done. THIS WAS ALWAYS EXPECTED.
If and when Dak is tagged, he will play out the 2020-2021 season on that tag and if he gets a long term deal by the 15 July deadline, that new deal won't go into effect until the 2021-2022 season starts. So to be clear, the tag will last one season.
