CD Lamb is already a better “88” than Dez Bryant

I tend to think Lamb is more route polished and works on his artwork more than Dez did.

- Dez took advantage of his sheer ability to overpower his CB foe, just way too big and wolf-strong.
Bryant combined pure strength, body control and run skills to do his bidding.

- Lamb is smooth and slippery, he has his own version of great body control and agility, and he has been
surprisingly durable and very seldom misses games per injury. Whereas Dez has always had issues
with injuries towards his wheels.. ankle, knee, hip .

- But Dez was more lethal dangerous on fades around goal line, and before injuries took over his wheels,
he was far more dynamic open field punt returner than Lamb, who seemed too slow for that duty.

- I believe Dez did not work on his craft, footwork and routes considerably - and when he physically slipped, he
had nuthin else to resort to. Thus he simply could not separate, and thus the Cowboys cut him.
I can agree with that. I think the injuries really took a toll on him because his game was all about his physical ability. Lamb may not experience as quick of a drop-off as Dez did even if injuries hit. Injuries really didn't really rob Dez of his physical gifts his sixth season, so we'll see if Lamb's durability is better, but Bryant simply didn't have anything to fall back on when he couldn't go up and win the ball anymore. It's then that the critiques of his route-running started showing up because he suddenly needed it to keep his career going and just didn't have it. That came after three straight seasons of 1,200-plus yards, though.

I was looking at the numbers this morning for the receiving leaders and saw that CeeDee is #1 in receptions, #2 in yards, and #4 in touchdowns and yards per game.

I can only imagine what his numbers would be if he was targeted properly in the games before the bye week.

Lamb is better at the finer things involved in the game. He is so smooth.

Dez was a physical player who used violence and sheer will to win battles in epic fashion. He was incredible to watch in his prime. I know some people complained about his sideline behavior, but I enjoyed his passion. But once his athleticism went away, it was over.

Both great receivers, but very different players.

I was looking at that yesterday. Outside of the Jet game, his first 5 weeks were very pedestrian.

I’ll never for the life of me understand the Dez hatred by our fanbase.

I’m a huge fan of both guys.

Dez was a prolific scorer at the WR position. Apx. 14% (13.9%) of Bryant’s career catches went for TDs. Comparatively, Lamb is currently at 7.8% for his career.

Randy Moss: 15.8% (incredible)
Jerry Rice: 12.7%
Mike Evans: 12.4%

I think Lamb is the more polished receiver. However, peak Dez was simply a scoring weapon.

In their prime, Romo+Dez was historic in one aspect - Dez may have had no separation, but he was always open.

Romo+Dez is up there with the all time greats for the Go Up And Get It. Less than Randy, more than Fitzgerald. It was the football equivalent of Jordan posting up on someone.

Too bad neither will make it to the HOF.

Two different type of recivers. Lamb is fast, elusive and slippery while Dez just overpowered and was strong as a **.

The Romo / Dez fade routes were near impossible to stop at one point.

Dez was already extremely good just imagine if he refined his craft and cared about route running and etc. Would have been a monster

While it wasn't that "long" ago per league years it was still a slightly different game back then.

I would need to see the next 3 years to make that determination but I like what I see. We still need a Cooper or someone on the other side.

I think people are forgetting what really caused Dez's production to fall off. Which was he was forced to play with a QB who would not throw into to a guy who was covered. Easily 80-90% of Dez's catches were with a DB right next to him. Romo trusted himself and Dez to go ahead and throw the ball to him anyway. For Dak's first three seasons he absolutely didn't and wouldn't. I firmly believe peak Dez with this version of Dak would threaten 100 catches 1800 yards and 15 TDs every year. I think the Cowboys made a huge mistake releasing him in 2018 and had to waste a #1 pick trading for Cooper to replace him. That pick could have been a pocket crunching DT or a road grading lineman. It was a dumb move and it cost this franchise. Just like dumping Cooper has cost this franchise. So the Cowboys essentially doubled their stupidity by dumping Dez then using a #1 pick to replace him, then dumping the replacement. Absolutely brain dead.
