At the time of the NFL draft - there was a question (and yes flaming disgruntlement) among Cowboys fan nation about why are drafting another WR, when we already had Cooper and Gallup ?

Instead of drafting a defensive prospect for a unit desperately needing impact players ?

Turns out considering what was still left on the draft board, and remaining prospects, the Cowboys may the right choice selecting a WR in the 1st round,.. but years later, there's a question as to did we miss out on the wrong 1st round WR ?

Did we get it wrong with CeeDee Lamb over Vikes WR Justin Jefferson who went five picks later ?

What's been the biggest differences between the two since ?

This is not a Dak hate response but I don’t think Jefferson would have been the same receiver he is for the Vikings that he is a Cowboy. The Vikings developed Jefferson and he has good chemistry with Cousins.

I agree with the Vikings developing Jefferson as their WR1 ... Ceedee 1st couple yrs has been primarily the slot guy... he is learning to be a Wr1 in the NFL which requires more precise route running and usually facing the the oppositions best corner and a Safety over top. He is extremely talented as is Jefferson. I think we are beginning to see CeeDee embrace the role and what he needs to clean-up his game. He will only get better, but Jefferson has had a head start in that role.

Teams are going to start keying on Lamb and will say Gallup and whoever will have to beat us. How will that work out?

He has a better OC that's the difference.

There are only a handful of guys who can do what Jefferson does at his level or better. There are many guys who can do what CD does and he wouldn't be a #1 wr on half the teams out there. They had to trade away a WR so CD could even have a shot at being the #1 guy here and still atleast 1/3 of the fans here thought it would be Gallup. He's a good slot guy, but too slow to be anything else consistently.

Right now CD having trouble running correct routes and having some occasional drops. Jefferson looks like Megatron Jr. with making spectacular catches while DB's are all over his back. CD need to pick it up a few notches.

In hind site Jefferson is a better player
Unfortunately you don’t get to draft in hindsite
And I would bet money lamb was higher on vikes board than Jefferson

Hindsight. 22 teams got it wrong.
not really, only teams that wanted a wr or needed one.
most of the teams that picked in say the top 21, needed other positions, and wanted a specific player for that role.
I dont think dallas was looking for or needing a wr, they just jumped on lamb as he was there, but so was jefferson.
I guess many teams considered lamb to be the better wr based on college, but jefferson has proved he was the better wr in that draft.
