At the time of the NFL draft - there was a question (and yes flaming disgruntlement) among Cowboys fan nation about why are drafting another WR, when we already had Cooper and Gallup ?

Instead of drafting a defensive prospect for a unit desperately needing impact players ?

Turns out considering what was still left on the draft board, and remaining prospects, the Cowboys may the right choice selecting a WR in the 1st round,.. but years later, there's a question as to did we miss out on the wrong 1st round WR ?

Did we get it wrong with CeeDee Lamb over Vikes WR Justin Jefferson who went five picks later ?

What's been the biggest differences between the two since ?
Is this even a real question?

Jefferson >>>>Lamb (and I like Lamb more than many here)

100%…Lamb was a great pick and is living up to his high draft status.

Man I’m glad we didn’t take Chaisson like half the board wanted to. That’s why you take talent over need.

Me too it's hard to draft a player high that had 1 season of good college production. Between Chaisson's numbers, and physical traits he looked like he would be a higher probability of a bust than a future superstar. When you reach for a position, bust is often the result teams get. Based on where the Cowboys drafted is there another player in hindsight they could have drafted there besides Lamb, Jefferson, or Diggs? So feeling good

Dallas really did well compared to most teams in those first 2 rounds, either way.
In a pretty weak draft class, they managed to get Lamb and Diggs

Well, until this year CD has played slot receiver. Not to mention having most of the season playing with a back up QB.

I'm on the fence with the young man, but I'm not sailing him down the river yet. Outside of the run game this offense is trash.

What I will absolutely sail down the river is Kellen Moore, and I'll stand on an island to scream it at the birds.

How much are we paying Moore? This is where he makes HIS money with scheme right? or do we just expect our athletes to always be faster, stronger and more talented than any team we face...

Agree but so far wonder boy has not earned his paycheck. He is making John Dillinger roll over in his grave with how easy he stealing money from the Clampetts.

The crazy thing about Chaisson is he didn’t even have 1s round numbers.

He looked the part athletically but didn’t have the production. I didn’t even have him as a first rounder.

- Lamb has not always played just slot .. remember when Gallup last year in '21, was out, Cedrick Wilson played slot while Camb took some Y role
Even Cooper on occasions did some slots.

- Yeh i think Kellen has not only peaked out, ..but he continues to show how limited he is.

- He's never been adept at exploiting the RBs in the pass game, (Pollard shouldve been dynamite in this area) Moore just doesn't care for
RB screens with pulling OL, so he never tries to develop & perfect it.

- Remember a speedier Zeke was utterly deadly with quick RB screens and Pollard would be deadly right now.. but Kellen ,,,
and Moore hasn't always adjusted accordingly. After Denver and Vic Fangio discovered the blue print vs Kellen, he simply
never adjusted to heavy back end zone coverage. .And it did not help that the run game flat sucked in 20 and 21.

- He doesn't emphasis misdirection in his run game design, it's simple and bland and predictable so it makes it
easier for defenses to anticipate and key in against.
and for goodness sake, is he going right back to generally running out of shotgun formation instead of the deep handoff QB under center ?

JJettas is far and away the better player, but I wouldn’t say we “got it wrong”.

There were concerns that Jefferson was only going to be a slot guy.

The 2019 LSU WRs were underrated. I remember vividly a commentator ranking Bama’s top guys (Ruggs/Jeudy) over JJ and Chase.

As a result, not many considered JJ in the group with Ruggs/Jeudy/CeeDee.

CeeDee was great value where we got him, and he hasn’t turned out to be a bust. I’m okay with that— you’re not going to get everything perfect.

Also, people attributing Jefferson’s numbers to a “better system & QB” are not doing him justice.

Jefferson is better all around in every category we value in WRs.

Speed, Vertical, Hands, route running. And he’s also just got “it” mentally.

A lot of teams missed on Jefferson. Of the 1st round picks, Lamb was the 2nd best choice, Jefferson is the clear cut #1.

Yup and I still say one of the big reasons why we drafted Lamb was because the Cowboys knew how badly the Eagles wanted him and they basically c ock blocked them.
