my fear with Folk is that in camp and practices he was fine...it was game time where he choked...and i would hate to go through camp thinking he is fine letting all other kickers get swooped up only for game time to come around and...."thump" off the left upright

Didn't Folk have problems in preseason and practice as well last season?

Yup, it was written as having to do with healing from hip surgery.

Yea that's pretty much what I remembered. If he's kicking well in training camp and preseason i'd be pretty confident going into the season with him as our kicker. I don't think what he did last season had to do with choking at all. I saw the guy kick two 50+ yarders in Buffalo after Jauron tried to ice him.

I. Really intense too. Takes his job very seriously.

.

Whoah, best not be that otherwise he might do what Brooking did in the Vikings game and then half of the fans will him throw him under a bus too.

Before the Grey Cup game referred to in the press release, he lost a CFL award to a Montreal player...and he was not happy. He thought he was screwed out of it and he was bound and determined for revenge. He got that revenge against Montreal...in Montreal. And after the game, he didn't hesitate in talking smack about too.

He went on to say that losing that award made him more determined to become the best CFL kicker of all time. It was a lot of bluster for just a kicker, but he didn't care. That's the way he is.

But he is deadly accurate. Almost all his misses are from 50+ yards out.

That and he did not like his holder and the coaches did not do anything about it, therefore messing up his confidence further.

That's a good point. I know Folk's struggles continued after they switched holders, but wouldn't be surprised if McBriar's holding got into his head some.

McBriar admitted to having the tendency to reach forward for the ball, which put the placement off. That can really throw of the kicker's confidence in the holds.

Folk is done here. Even if he did work out his terminal YIPS, he doesn't have the team behind him. Everyone...including all of us, would hold our breath every time he hit the field. It's over with Folk...get past it. I say bring in anybody who they can for camp and workouts. Kicker HAS to be fixed this coming season

I don't think Folk would have any trouble "winning over" the team if he returned to his presurgery form. A kicker builds confidence in others by his work in practice and the pregame.

Would not be surprise at all if he returns to compete for the job.

Now, getting certain fans not to hold their breath every time he hits a field goal would be more difficult, but something tells me the Cowboys aren't concerned about that.

Hm. Maybe Buehler should hold for kicks. Who better for a kicker to trust than another kicker?

Not if Buehler secretly wants the job....

yeah but what if he is what we need hostile and we can get him cheap/ they said he was the most accurate kicker in cfl history;

and he is only 28, this would save us a draft pick used on a kicker too

also doesnt the cfl have their goal posts not as wide as the nfl? so if our goal posts are wider then what he is used to kicking through, wouldnt that be good hostile?

and remember you said you didnt like it when we signed brooking either hostile
this maybe a find for us and save us on a draft pick, too

I think our's are wider by a bit but up here they kick from hashmarks which are more like NCAA hashmarks. The goal posts are also right at the goal line.

and only two of the stadiums up here are outdoors (Toronto and BC which will be going outdoor next year). The winds on the prairie would be like playing in North Dakota and Montana.

DeAngelis attempting to impress Cowboys

CFL Notebook

Canwest News ServiceJanuary 21, 2010 10:32 PM

Calgary Stampeders kicker Sandro DeAngelis was scheduled to work out with the National Football League Dallas Cowboys on Friday.

DeAngelis, who’s scheduled to become a free agent on Feb. 15 after five years with the Stamps, is ahead of the pace of last off-season when he didn’t manage to secure a tryout while exercising his option-year NFL opportunities.

The 28-year-old former Nebraska Cornhusker is the most accurate kicker in CFL history.

thanks for all of the info on the kicker, hopefully the cowboys dont fool around and sign him before some other team does. I realize he is 28, but he has about 5 to 7 years left to kick. Most kickers start slowing down around 34 or so.

they just need to do this the old fashioned way. bring in two or three kickers and bring on the training camp battle. at least it will be something to keep us interested in august.

You don't know that, yet here you are, talking as if you have the line on the inside scoop from Valley Ranch... how very arrogant of you...

Permit me to note also that the consensus is not that Nick got the "YIPS", but that he was never really healthy after his offseason hip surgery... there is a difference, though apparently it's lost on you...

I still remember the Nick Folk who hit two 52 yarders to win the Buffalo game, the extremely clutch kicker that he was back then... I'm sure that Jerry hasn't forgotten either, so if he gets his injury fully rehabbed, why not bring him back for another look??

I guess you just have a short memory, or absolutely no view of the long term...

On November 23, 2008, DeAngelis won his first Grey Cup championship with the Calgary Stampeders against the hosting Montreal Alouettes. His 5 field goal performance, including one from 51 yards, earned him the Dick Suderman Trophy as the Grey Cup's Most Outstanding Canadian.

For his CFL career, Sandro is 218 of 260, 83.8 per cent... he's hit at least two 56 yarders for Calgary...
