In a surprising move, the Patriots informed wide receiver Chad Jackson this morning that they are cutting him from the roster, according to a league source.

Jackson, the team's second-round draft choice in 2006, entered training camp in a battle for the No. 3 job previously occupied by Donte' Stallworth. He also took repetitions as a punt returner.

With Jabar Gaffney seizing the role of No. 3 receiver, and receiver/returner C.J. Jones making the 53-man roster, Jackson was apparently deemed expendable.

August 31 @ 12:51pm CT Pats cut former second-round pick Jackson - The New England Patriots have surprisingly cut wide receiver Chad Jackson, the team's second-round pick in 2006, according to the Boston Globe.
Our View
Jackson did not do much in his time with the Patriots, but he has only been in the league two seasons, and was supposedly competing for the No. 3 wide receiver job in camp. He will likely find a home on someone's roster.

I'm with you guys. Jerry go get this guy and take a chance. He does have size and speed that we need and he is young. Just might need a change to find his way.

Jackson would be the first, no-strings attached, free agent wide receiver who I would like Jerry Jones to target.

a younger version of Marc Colombo?

I wouldn't be suprised that the 1st team that goes after him is the Commanders

remember how Marc Colombo was a high draft pick who got hurt and we took a chance on him, took him in, stashed him on the back of the roster?

Somethng to a guy who had like a year to prove himself than was planted on the bench behind pro bowlers.

If the Patriots cant get anything out of him than I doubt we can either.

I didnt like him coming out of College like a lot of you guys did so my opinion probably has some bias in it ill admit.

Even if we have interest, someone above us in the pecking order will claim him on waivers for a looksee.

Although it's not a full vindication, I believe that Jackson can place some of the blame on playing with Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker.

remember that the WR position usually takes around 2/3 years for a rookie to acclimate into, and he's only entering his 3rd year, and he was setback by a pretty serious injury early on
