Personally I’m ready to try anything and it appears entirely logical to use a system or scheme which the HC is not only familiar and comfortable with but had success.

My problem with the analogy is Coach Phil had the most explosive talent in the league . Not only in Chicago but in LA . I’d feel more like making such an analogy if MM had one of the most talented QB’s in the league .

While not all of them work out (Amari Cooper), the Cowboys show a very high percentage of being right when they get out from under big contracts or allow key contributors to leave Dallas for a bigger payday. They are also very smart in finding these low-cost outside free agent contributors year in and year out. They don’t hit on all of them, but the investment is so small that it doesn’t hurt them when they miss. And they’re hitting on enough to make a difference. In fact, of the defensive players who logged at least 275 snaps last year, 29% of them (five players) were outside free agents who were signed at a bargain price.

And of course, the beauty in all of this is that this team is one of the better drafting teams in the NFL. The proof is right in front of us. From All-Pros in the early rounds to strong contributors later, this team does well when it comes to the draft. Do they hit all the time? Of course not, but their success rate is fantastic.

Finally, “roster building can’t just come from the draft” is a mantra that many of us have cited and for good reason. There has to be more. When the Cowboys are able to trade away late-round draft capital for a proven veteran at an area of need like Robert Quinn, great things happen. This is why we are so excited about the Cowboys offseason this year because they not only did that once, but twice with the acquisitions of Gilmore and Cooks. That is how you spend Day 3 draft capital.

It feels like the Cowboys are recognizing what they do well and doing more of it while avoiding the things they don’t do well (spending big in free agency). Hopefully, the moves they’ve made this offseason will serve them well and provide a better blueprint for how to operate going forward.

As long as we're talking NBA I would implement a lot more pick plays. Brady made a killing off them during his career - why survey the field when you know the one guy that's going to be open because his defender has been redirected.
Without illegal stuff like that and others, no one would be talking about NE and dynasty

This post is complete and utter non sense. The offense will barley change next year. And now Mccarthy is some West Coast guru?
Here you up and announce nothing has changed with anything but Jerry and Prescott sucks more...care to prove any of that beyond attitude attached to a picture simply of a stereotyped list of failure.

Sometimes the "system" can only do so much....you need the players who can actually run it. Dak is not an accurate passer even on short passes and the receiver corps does not run precise and sharp routes. Amari was the only one who used to run like that....Both would need to improve drastically, Dak needs to hit the receivers in stride and on the move, and the receivers need to make great fakes, sharp cuts and get separation quickly.

So call it, WCO, GCO, TCO, BO, BYOB...whatever, ...make the adjustments and LFG. :flagwave:

I was watching a documentary on Michael Jordan, who was a prolific scorer from 1984-1990. But the knock on Michael was he could put up great stats, but couldn’t win in the playoffs. Along comes coach Phil Jackson and he changed the “system” from pick and roll, plus isolation offense to the triangle offense that won Phil Jackson 9 rings and gave him three 3-peat championship teams, two with Jordan and Pippen in Chicago, and another with Shaq and Kobe in Los Angeles. Jackson won 9 championships in 13 seasons, making his triangle system perhaps the best in NBA history.

In the NFL, by far the most successful system for winning championships has included the concepts of the West Coast offense, a system of which Mike McCarthy is a disciple, and with which he himself has already won a championship. The Jones family initially prohibited McCarthy from implementing the WCO in Dallas, which never in the long 63 season history of the team, has incorporated the Weat Coast Offense. The Jones family have been dedicated to the Air Coryell type system that won them 3 championships in the mid 1990’s.

But with the firing of Kellen Moore, that has changed. The implementation of the Weat Coast offense style is not only going to affect Dak Prescott. It will change the offense for the entire team. Receiver routes will change, running back assignments will change, and blocking assignments will change (a big reason Schoonmaker was the 2nd round pick.)

The is no guarantee this will work. But we all know that the system that Garrett and then Moore in Dallas since 2007 hasn’t worked out either. But perhaps a system change can do for the Cowboys what it did for the 90’s Bulls, and the 2000’s Lakers. Perhaps implementing the West Coast offense concepts into to Cowboys offense can change them from a team that piles up great offensive stats (like both Romo and Dak have had at QB, Murray and Elliott have had at RB, Dez, Amari and CeeDee have had at WR, and Witten at TE) into a team prepared to win championships instead.

Perhaps…

It’s worth a shot, anyway.

People are all desperate to believe that the WCO is going to uncover some hidden talent of Dak Prescott. I guess when you are desperate you will grab onto anything. Now back to clutching that lottery ticket in hopes that you can make your mortgage payment this month by winning it all.

Keep on attempting to explain away actual Cowboy talent to be negative instead. Now read on and see how many interceptions were thrown by Roger Staubach and he got Landry his only two Lombardi's. There is more than a single way to success...

IMO that’s a poor interpretation for the intention of perspective from OP which wasn’t to uncover a hidden talent but to optimize his strength and lessen the opportunity for his weaknesses to be exposed.

The OP here stated that he placed Dak in the upper 25% which would be top 1/4 of the league . Mathematically that would be top 8.

I don’t have a problem with placing him close to top 10. He’s no doubt in top half and probably closer to top 10 than top half.

But top 5 would put him in this category .
Mahomes, Rodgers, Allen and Burrows which I’m not prepared to do. But I can see you believing that .

Are they really changing the offense? Or just tweaking it like they said?
