I thought that yesterday, but not now. Dallas wants Elliott.

However, the thing to watch is to see if anybody else trades up to 3 to take Elliott.

Elliott is actually the player many former personnel people say is the best talent in the draft. Mayock, Casserly, and Riddick all think so.

So was McFadden in his day. In fact, he was even hyped more than Elliott. Are we going to spend the #4 pick on Elliott to replace him? It doesn't make sense to me.

You spend the #4 pick on QB, LT, DE, LB, or WR.

Or we are 3 or 4 years away from a good defense.

Our defense was middle of the pack last year in both points and yards when they had O that did absolutely nothing and where put in a lot of bad positions.

This defense is two players away from being a top 10 or higher defense, a play maker in the secondary and D lineman that can bring pressure.

Heck just having any kind of Offense will help move their ranking up.

We talk about this D like they are scrubs.
As much as we like to crap on the D you're right. They usually played good most of the game then it was always that 1/2 drives in the 4th after the sad O went 3&out too many times in a row to count that they'd give up a td/lead. Outside of the Atl game I think the D did its job for the most part in games until it was out there too long.

McFadden was a one-trick pony out of college. He did not have anywhere near the skill set of Elliott.

And that positional thing doesn't make sense. You wouldn't spend a #4 on Deion Sanders, Ndamakong Suh, Tony Gonzalez, Barry Sanders, or Ed Reed?

McFadden was pretty good when he first got in the league. He just couldn't stay healthy.

But he had really stiff hips, no wiggle at all, no experience in pass protection or receiving.

He was in the same backfield as Peyton Hillis and Felix Jones, too.

Because if you could get Emmitt Smith, Larry Allen, Jason Witten, or Darren Woodson ....... they would not be worth #4 in the draft.

It's easy to say that now but none of those guys were top 10 picks.

Jamaal Charles, Leveon Bell, MAtt Forte, and many others were drafted later on. That is where the value consistently is for that position.

It's hard to find a corner that produces at a high level later on. RB? Happens almost every year.

We cant do it in the first round .

8 years ago Mike Jenkins (next Deion)
4 years ago Morris Claiborne (next Deion)
1 year ago Byron Jones (next Deion)
Yet last year our best corner was a 5th round draft pick.

Go figure ......

This is just a guess but I think the reason we are hearing names like Stanley and Buckner is because they are willing to sell the pick.

So if you're wanting Zeke there is some hope for you guys that a team jumps us for Ramsey.

Btw, I think Ramsey is the top guy on most teams draft boards. Tunsil has hurt himself over this draft process IMO.

How has Tunsil hurt his draft status ?

the only thing i am aware of is that the trade by Tennessee hurt his draft status. But that was not his fault.

Seems like our fan base probably won't like any DB we get. I remember Newman getting a lot of heat too :lmao:

This is why it's really hard to take most of you Elliott guys seriously. You seem to just make things up as you go along.

McFadden was far from a one-trick pony coming out of college. And he absolutely had the skill set of Elliott.

Here are some snippets from one scouting report on him:

Looks natural with the ball in his hands, as he is a threat running, throwing or catching the ball

Understands coverage and where he fits catching underneath throws...Does a good job of reaching and plucking the ball, especially on screens...Natural hands catcher who can snatch the ball outside his frame work...

Will take on the blitz and has developed good cut-blocking skills...Will not hesitate to face up and stone the opponent blocking in-line...

One comparison for him from the NFL site was Marshall Faulk.

Nobody ever predicted that Jones or Jenkins would be the next Deion.

He caught 46 balls in college. Elliott caught 58. Not exactly a massive difference and I doubt 12 catches is the difference between Elliott being an experienced, masterful pass catcher and McFadden being an non-experienced pass catcher in college.

As I said, it's hard to take you seriously anymore when you keep trotting out fallacies just to try to built your big Elliott bias.

So you're saying to stop drafting talented corners because the others didn't pan out how you would like?

Is Scandrick a talented corner? Where was he drafted? Why cant we draft talented corners where we actually find them at?

Doesn't the same apply to TBs?

Of course ........but we have not used a high draft pick on RB's but twice in the last 30 years.

Guess how many times we have with CB's ........ and non have lived up to one of those RB's we drafted.

Because most guys are like BW Webb in those rounds and not Scandrick.
