Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman feels he should have been the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year over Miami Dolphins DE Jason Taylor. "If anybody can honestly say they've performed as well as I have while I've been on the field..." Merriman said. "You even take the four games away and I still outperformed a lot of guys." Merriman missed four games as a result of a positive steroids test. "I don't think it was my suspension that cost me the votes," Merriman added. "I think it's that I didn't play the full 16 games is what the people have something over me."

Jason Taylor played good on a crap team. The dolphins defense was on the field 75% of the time because the offense was no good hence the reason why he had the type of season he did.

Merriman missed 4 games and is on a 14-2 team with a great offense and the best RB of all time. As good as LT is, without Merriman I don't think the chargers would be in the playoffs.

So based on this, yes I agree Merriman was snubbed.

I call BS on that one. Show me some highlights of Ware in "coverage". Seriously, it's just another tired old excuse. I am a Cowboy fan btw, but I am the one willing to admit Merriman is better.

If your a Cowboys fan I assume you watch the game, then why do you need highlights? Ware is in coverage quite a bit

Well, you can live in fairy tale land. I will live in reality.
If you think brain cancer and/or dying a slow painful death is a fairy tale you worry me. Please, if you have children use a book, do not make up your own fairy tales. Our prison system is max'd out.

Like it or not, steriods is something that isn't going to go away. Penalize the players and move on. That's all you can do.

Who said steroids were going away? I did not. The penalty should fit the crime. In "reality", to use your reference, the guy on the streets would face criminal liability. His penality wouldn't be don't go to work for a month. How's fairy tale land? Send me a post card would you? A slap on the hands of the offender is the real reason they won't go away.

My wishing to see Merriman win the award was mostly in jest towards seeing the reactions of this message board, which would be humorous.

Maybe you should wish for something a little higher in life. Set some goals, man.

And this is where you lost all credibility.

Right. Because having Merriman here instead of Ware is going to be a huge difference.

Its Ware's fault Spears and Canty have done a poor job at generating a pass rush this season.

Its Ware's fault Bradie James is getting killed in the passing game and cannot blitz.

Its Ware's fault we cannot get a pass rush from the other OLB spot.

Its Ware's fault Zimmer cannot design a pass rush, cannot generate a pass rush, or disguise a pass rush.

Its Ware's fault we had poor FS play throughout most of the first half of the season.

Its Ware's fault no one else besides him ever comes close to the QB.

Having Merriman would fix all of that.

Now that right there is some fine posting..........

Liar. You are a "fan" yet you call Ware in coverage "highlights"? Things that are of the norm are not highlights, dear. He does it all the time. Go re-watch the Indy game, the game that Ware single handedly won with Indy's last drive. You're asking a fella to do a lot of work in finding the hundreds of "highlights" you ask for.

What's sad is that play you are talking about (and that I mentioned too) is such a great play by him.

But it never gets talked about because either people expect it of him, or they don't realize what a great play it was (because it wasn't a sack or an INT).

Shawne Merriman's "success" creates some George Foreman style opportunities.

I'm pretty convinced that comparing Ware and Merriman are like trying to compare Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith. Each has their loyal backing that will never agree not to mention they were different types of backs.

You nailed it brother. Ware really brings more to the table. It's not the koolaid talkin'. If we were to talk Carpenter and A.J.Hawk....Hawk by a mile.

Merriman>Ware.
Ware is a good player, but not the player Merriman is.
We passed on Merriman just like we passed on Steven Jackson.
To those who think Ware is a better player,I have this to say:

Regardless how big the lie is,
It's not a lie if you believe it.

What is the lie? That Ware is better or that the juice is still in Merriman's system and that undoubtedly makes his performance better? WE DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF PLAYER SHAWNE MERRIMAN IS. And unless he stops roiding up, we will never know. What we do know is that he was (and maybe still is) a cheater. They don't call them "peformance-enhancing" supplements for nothing.
