By the way, where's the source on this $15 MM buy-out clause? His first one was only $1 MM. I haven't read anything about the second contract being leaked out.

There was an article written a while back that pointed out that although Weis' contract does have a buyout provision if he wanted to leave for the NFL, it also has an "out" clause for ND is they wanted to get out of the deal because Weis' didn't continue his recent success.

So, ND/Weis is still a business relationship all the way around.

I admit, I don't think it will happen, but Weis is so close to Parcells and it would be such a smooth transition that it is possible.

We all remember Parcells saying that coaching the Cowboys was like playing the big room at Vegas, so, in the coaching world the Cowboy job isn't just another job.

Also, I know Weis has a lot of loyalty to ND for giving him his chance, but in reality I think the NFL is in his blood and he is too good of a coach to stay in the minor leagues. He should be coaching with the big boys in the NFL.

Plus... I bet he would love a chance to coach against Belichek to see wgo'a previous dynasty team can win the next SB first:D

15 million? That is a steep price tag, even for jerry Jones.

I love it when college homers say "There is no way our coach is leaving ... he said it's his dream job".

Folks, burm is a Notre Dame fiend. The idea that Weiss would leave the Golden Domers is unimaginable. That's why someone reporting that Weiss would even allude to leaving is unthinkable for him. It's ok burm. I understand.

But know this, NFL owners are watching Weiss and whether he comes to Dallas or anywhere else, they have deeper pockets than any package ND can possibly put together. If he wants to make the jump, no contract can stop him.

Basically what I heard was that a couple of NFL teams sent out "feelers" and he said he would be so broke he wouldnt be able to live. Basically a thanks but no thanks. Said he would be with Notre Dame until he dies or gets fired.

Now do I think he would be a great coach yes... But I think hes perfect for college not to tough not to easy.. Im not sure his coaching style would go over well in the NFL... Im probably wrong just my opinion.....

Woody, just how many teams are willing to pay $15 million for a coach?
REALLY. Especially one who has not been a head coach at the Pro Level?

I have watched quite a few CW press conferences. Everything I have heard there and elsewhere tells me that maybe the NY Giants is the only position that he MIGHT want outside of HC at ND. And that position will either be open next year or not for several years. Some coaches find it easy to lie; CW does not in any way shape or form appear to be one of them.

Love how coaching at ND is considered the minor leagues.

Sorry to inform you, but there is a difference in playing for the Lombardi Trophy and playing for the Sears/BCS Trophy. :)

The $15 million figure was talked about a lot around the timeof the extension. Since neither CW, ND or anyone else involved ever denied it; and White- the AD of ND- said the whole contract extension was designed to make it as close to impossible for a NFL team to break it-I would say that it is probably pretty much true.

Sorry to inform you, but there are a FEW coaches out there not all that enamored with NFL coaching.

Like Theogt asked before, find the actual source that says there is a 15mm buyout, then that'll be an item up for discussion. Until then, I don't believe that it's that much. I believe tht 15mm is at stake, but not what it would take for him to get out of it.

And though he said no, Weiss is on some owners radar.

Per Schefter:
A word of caution to some head coaches: NFL owners are getting restless.
At least two owners contacted Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis in the past week to see if they could entice him to leave South Bend, Ind., for the richer confines of the NFL, Weis confirmed over the weekend.

Weis told each owner thanks, but no thanks. He's very happy at Notre Dame. "I'm not going anywhere," Weis said.
About this time last year, Weis signed a 10-year contract extension with Notre Dame. But NFL owners were skeptical about whether he would remain at the school. At least two NFL owners were curious enough that, within the past week, while Notre Dame was on its bye, they contacted Weis. They thought the bye week would be the proper time to reach out to him.

The Commanders? They paid Spurrier a ton and he had never been an NFL HC.

I don't know where this $15M figure came from but I seriously doubt that it is remotely accurate.

As far as I know, the NCAA and Notre Dame have no connection to the NFL (well no legal one anyway) so if Weis decided to bail out on his current deal and sign with an NFL team he could do so without any repercussions to that team. If there is a penalty clause in Weis' contract for leaving early then that is one thing but only a complete idiot would agree to a $15M penalty. If he actually signed a deal like that then I wouldn't want him because he is a freakin moron!

Should he decide to leave then Notre Dame would have to sure Weis for whatever breach of contract they believe was made by him. The NFL team would not be liable in any way unless they agreed to pay it for Weis.

At least that's my understanding of it. Maybe AdamJT13 can elaborate although this is outside of his usual area of expertise.

So you have no proof is what you're saying... The 15mm is based on speculation you heard, but there was nothing reported which stated it as fact. Ok, gotcha.

All I know is that we've heard before that these college coaches are locked into contracts and will never leave, and yet they always manage to find a way out if they really want to go.

I'd love to have Weiss here, but I could almost see the Giants as a more logical move. In fact, wasn't it reported once that the Giants job would be his NFL choice? And I could see it happening before too long if Kommandant Kofflin's team goes into a tailspin and the team starts tuning out his heavy-handed ways.

Rick Pitino SWORE he would never leave the University of Kentucky but when the Celtics offered him $10M a year to coach them he took off like the roadrunner from the coyote, leaving a cloud of dust behind him and a trail of recruits who thought they were going to play for him instead of Tubby Smith.

Guys do it all the time and it would not surprise me at all to see Weis bail out on ND if a big enough offer came his way. Money talks and coaches walk.

He could come here and retain Zimmer.

ND's defense sucks hard.
Romeo Cremmel will likely be out of work in Cleveland soon, he would be a fine coordinator.

Hey maybe we could also lure Belichick away from the Pats. That's be great. Weis and Crennel as OC & DC. Bill as HC. Something tells me that is a winning combination.
