That would be crazy if he went to another team with a QB, drafted and signed who he wanted, had control, and took team to success….would say a lot about Jerry. He'd be very good for Williams, or Lawrence in Jax.
I hope for his sake he gets out of here.
If McCarthy has multiple offers he’ll take the one that shows him the biggest commitment by offering the biggest compensation.if he does leave.
give me mike vrable.
You always seem to have thoughtful takes. You really buying Ben Johnson stock like that? I'm always weary of guys with stocked pantries, and the Lions are probably the most talented team in the league.I think they'd be crazy to not have Ben Johnson as their top target this offseason, but McCarthy would be a perfect backup option in my opinion. A veteran offensive minded HC is a very good idea to bring some stability to that franchise.
I think its fair to always be weary of the hot shot coordinator who has never been a HC, I think thats why it would be smart of them to interview both a guy like Johnson and a guy with some HC success to his name like a McCarthy. Coordinator to HC is like going from the fun uncle to having to be the authoritarian dad. There is some crossover there, but its two completely different roles. You always seem to have thoughtful takes. You really buying Ben Johnson stock like that? I've been saying Mike may have other options
You have to always be cautious of guys like that. I want Ben here but I think there’s an argument to be made Mike is a better fit.You always seem to have thoughtful takes. IMO it's simple for Mike ..........Jerry makes a 3-year offer to run it back with a limited budget for the coaching staff vs another option, Let's say the Jags make a 5 year with an unlimited budget to hire his complete staff. My point is if Mike has another option, it would force Jerry to match some conditions he's not comfortable with ( 5 years, complete control over coaching staff ). Add this to Jerry screwing him over as mentioned ........ if another team is interested, I think he's a goner.I didn’t see this happening but who knows. This win streak has done him favors.
All his years of failure in GB and Dallas in the post season are wiped away because of his current run. Good for him if so. He deserves credit for whatever he does because Jerry screwed him over this offseason.
I agree with what you're saying but the issue is in the timing of it all. McCarthy wont have to interview for a job in Dallas as he would with another team. Jerry is in position to make a decision on MM right after the season is over, whereas its likely a 2-3 week process anywhere else. I'm sure Jerry would give Mike a take it or leave it, need an answer within a day or two type of offer because if he Mike says no Jerry now has to start the 2-3 week coaching search himself. Jerry, if he has any sense at all wont let Mike to get the point where he has other offers on the table.IMO it's simple for Mike ..........Jerry makes a 3-year offer to run it back with a limited budget for the coaching staff vs another option, Let's say the Jags make a 5 year with an unlimited budget to hire his complete staff. Think about this for a second.......You are Mike's agent. You wanna make sure your clients have as many options as possible when the season ends. The 3-4 weeks Mike has turned the tide a bit in his favor. As an agent, you trying to get a feel for what interest the three vacancies may have in him. (that's not tampering.......Mike can contact any team he wants). Now we are starting to read/hear more and more about other options he may have. How did that happen? As stated, if you have a team like the Jets, Bears or Jags who have struggled just to have winning seasons, Mike is pretty attractive.I agree with what you're saying but the issue is in the timing of it all. but again... why? i admittedly don't know much about ben johnson, other than hearing his name surface last season and intensify this season. and i just don't know if it's a product of his coaching, or having one of the best lines, best receiving corps, best rb room etc.You have to always be cautious of guys like that. I want Ben here but I think there’s an argument to be made Mike is a better fit.
If he gets one he will take it.If McCarthy has multiple offers he’ll take the one that shows him the biggest commitment by offering the biggest compensation.
If I'm him I'd choose Chicago if presented with that as a choiceI have been saying for a while that a lot of people are assuming McCarthy will want to come back after being forced to coach on the final year of his contract.
He will either leverage it to gain things he wants changed or he may have already decided that he is better off moving to a team with a younger quarterback with a lot more cap room to work with.
McCarthy might not get another HC offer. So if he wants to be a HC those are conditions. How many of y'all would stay knowing you will again lose more talent than you gained for the second straight year. With an aging QB who may not physically be capable of staying healthy for 17 + games.
Hard to say. He is selling or has sold his home so I'm thinking he is gone. We don't know if his agent believes there may be interest elsewhere or not. Good agent is laying some ground work now. He might be willing to stay were guessing.McCarthy might not get another HC offer. So if he wants to be a HC those are conditions.
But remember, when he came here he knew Jerry had the final say and he would likely be married to Dak.
Just me, but I am 100% confident his agent already knows his chances of getting an offer from another team. With advanced communication technology, it's nearly impossible to stop tampering. As one former agent put it .........it's no different when the free market opens and teams sign free agent within min. My point is Jerry's attempt to sabotage MM may very well backfire in his face.Hard to say. He is selling or has sold his home so I'm thinking he is gone. I like his mix of running and passing the football. Great combination of big play and controlling the clock. I don’t care for the trick plays but it keeps defenses on their toes. I’m just not a fan of what I see from McCarthys offenses.but again... why? i admittedly don't know much about ben johnson, other than hearing his name surface last season and intensify this season. and i just don't know if it's a product of his coaching, or having one of the best lines, best receiving corps, best rb room etc.
What’s the point in sabotaging him? Not disagreeing but what was the point? Maybe so he wouldn’t have to fire him?Just me, but I am 100% confident his agent already knows his chances of getting an offer from another team. ehh. they did draft gibbs too high imo but that's not a reflection on him as a player, just the position. he was a stud in college and predicted first/early first. however you feel about the skill players individually, collectively they are a talented bunch. looking back at amon's rookie season, his numbers did really blossom when johnson took over from anthony lynn though. so who knows.I like his mix of running and passing the football. As far as the Lions personnel goes…I’ve said it in the past but these guys weren’t big name acquisitions. Gibbs is a good player but people said they drafted him too high. La Porta was good but everyone said Mayer and Kincaid were better. St Brown was a mid round pick. Sewell and Jameson were top picks. We haven’t really seen these guys without him to say if it’s him or them.
