I'm gonna wait on him, considering how many times we see significant progress from players between year one and two.

I always thought he was taken a round too early, but that means nothing if he contribute to the rotation in a productive way.

Even after missing significant time last preseason, they made a point of working him in, as opposed to leaning toward a redshirt situation, so Quinn must really like him....and he is the guy I trust more than anyone else in the entire building.

I hope so. Maybe DE on running downs and moving inside on sone pass rushing downs?

I don't think Golston will be fighting for a spot, assuming he stays healthy.

The versatility he is showing and the work he put in putting on 20lbs with the offseason PB....that gets noticed. Guys like Hill and Basham are gone imo. Big Bo i think is on the team, at least I hope with Ridgeway.

Unfortunately injuries usually end up settling what appears to be a logjam within a unit.

Numbers wise anyway.

What I do know is it's nice to finally trust someone on the staff to get it right, and I do with Quinn.

People can say what they want about him as a HC but he is an absolute stud DC and we are lucky to have him.

He is going to get pressure one way or another with multiple looks. Stopping the run is another challenge, and I think folks are counting a little too much on Ridgeway to be the savior there, but let's see. Maybe Bohanna steps things up.

For me things have 100% flip flopped from a year ago......I know our defense is gonna be good enough, but can the offense give us the same?

Moore is in way over his head but Jerry wants that puppet in place. It's sinful, because this team could be really, really close. All too often it feels exactly like Garrett's playbook with a few ridiculous trick plays.

How did you come up with this that he played well last year?? I dont think he grades "well" in any metric lol

Watching his plays in slow motion using Tivo. It's one thing to think and another to acutally look it up. As a rotational player playing mostly on running downs he had 32 tackles, 4 QB hits, one pass defended, and a fumble recovery. Which defensive lineman drafted after him played better?

I think Quinn is an excellent defensive coordinator. Exactly where he should be.

But I see this as make or break for the Kellen Moore era as offensive coordinator.

After this season, I expect them to call Sean Payton to see if he wants the head coach job.

RISCO – This time last season, Chauncey Golston was just entering his first moments in the NFL and preparing to make a leap into training camp. A leap that was hindered by a hamstring injury that limited his availability throughout the offseason as well as his production early in the regular season at the edge rusher spot.

Despite his lack of playing time early, his trajectory still pointed up as he made a significant impact both on special teams and in the defensive line rotation. This time around, during the first OTA practices, Golston is trending in a completely different direction - Inside.

Golston says he enters practice nearly 20-pounds heavier than his playing weight last season and took early snaps with both the edge rushers and interior defensive lineman. Even with the added weight, he appeared quick off the snap and was moving better than he ever did last season.

But why would he be working with a crowded room of defensive tackles with Neville Gallimore, Osa Odighizuwa, and Trysten Hill all in the fold?

Simply enough, it's a size mismatch.

i hope it works out with Golston.

- I get the vibe that his top potential is Tyrone Crawford, a more rotational type "betweener" and that's not exactly what i'd like from a 3rd round pick.
But my biggest hope is he becomes as close to Michael Bennett as possible. A versatile betweener who can bounce and spot at both edge outside and
inside interior in a pinch and occasions.

- Not physically overpowering or athletically explosive, but maybe one that is so adept with using his hands, leverage added with tenacity, that he has a knack
making plays and penetration vs run or pass, despite his physical limitations.

- He missed all of the summer with injuries, and into very early part of the reg season, so it may have taken him that much more to get going, plus he's a rookie,
trying to adjust not only to NFL trenches, but also learning Quinns scheme and system.

- Like Osa, i thought Chauncey also hit a rookie wall the latter part of the season- a strong offseason and camp should help those matters.
I'll await to see how he works and operates at his best - once the pads, hitting and games played proceed.

You know me, any mention of Crawford just brings back bad memories of a failed experiment.

And it gives me the impression of strictly a role player rather than a starter. I would expect more of a 3rd round draft investment.

Yeah, I wasn’t exactly stoked when we drafted him the 3rd. Thought there was better talent still left on the board. If we were dead set on going defense I would have liked to have taken Baron Browning.

With all that said, I don’t think he had/has much of a future at DE/Edge; simply doesn’t have the get off or arsenal of moves. I think the better move is to move him inside at 3T and see if he can surprise with his athleticism (relatively speaking) inside.

You know it is not really about the individual stats. The Cowboys defense will be bigger and faster in the second season with Quinn. Mark it down. We will have a top 5 defense next season.

He'll be happy (and lucky) to be embracing any role on this team. He's a fringe player who is in a fight to be one of the (most likely only) 10 D-lineman they keep. The spots are filling up quickly and he needs to fight like he's 3rd in line for the arc and it's starting to rain. There are already at least 8 spots locked in and he isn't one of them:
Dlaw, Gallimore, Odiggy, Fowler, Armstrong, Ridgeway, Watkins, Williams

Basham, Hill, Bohanna and Golston are fighting for the last 2 spots.

Odds are one or two of these guys are going to get hurt and wind up stashed on IR.

Practice squads are bigger by 2 players this year. Maybe they try to stash a guy on the PS too.

I think Bohanna is fighting with Ridgeway for one spot on the roster. If Ridgeway shows anything it could be good-bye for Bohanna. I am not sure Carlos Watkins is not on the bubble. Golston, Hill and Watkins could be fighting for 1 spot as well. I like Watkins, but he, Hill, and Golston are JAGs. I think the decision to keep or shed any of them will come down to other factors than play on the field.

It is odd they are trying to move Golston inside. He did not look good a DE last year but I think it makes more sense to have him back up DLaw. I don't think they need him inside other than for depth on passing downs. If they already concluded he is not an edge guy then he can't be far from the bubble either.

I am in the minority but I think Hill is better than he gets credit. Still, he is a free agent after this season and I doubt Dallas will resign him. Maybe they just move on from him now.

Crawford was good rotational player.
- Fans hate him because he got over-paid, but as a draft pick prior to the big contract, he lived up to his draft status as a mid-3rd round pick.

Crawford and other players from back then would have been better in Dan Quinn's scheme.
- Marinelli's scheme was far to simple and predictable.
- Marinelli's scheme was completely dependent on the player winning with a quick first step.

For a third round pick going into his second year, I hope that there is, in fact a ‘plan’ for him, and a place where he fits.

I’d settle for a consistent defense. As good as they were in 2021, I think there were ups and downs. And the run defense needs to improve overall. If they can get that? Watch out!

Wouldn’t surprise me if the team is trying to make him into that Tyrone Crawford type utility player. He doesn’t bring much as an edge other than a bull rush and pursuit. I think his skills are probably better suited inside as a rotation DT.

He does look physically bigger than last year (he wears #99 now)

He looks fat not fit as the last year, I think he started late last year as he was in some Injury list.
