Nobody really knows if Chaz Green can help us or not. 91st pick in this year's draft, so it's hard to expect too much right away.
Sure hope so eventually.

Collins is the next guy off the bench at tackle or guard. Im not worried about it.

The coaches don't appear to agree with you. Collins has been in pure competition with Leary, and Bern is the backup at all 3 spots like usual. Unless they're playing mind games with us fans, it doesn't appear that Collins will play at RT.

This isn't a complaint, and the announcers mentioned it last night as well, but I have never seen a pre-season team blitz like the Chargers did. The offensive line probably saw more blitzing in that game than they've seen from their own defense in practice, the entirety of training camp combined. I'm not worried. Romo, Dez and Witten on the field are just as effective at stopping blitzes (before they start in this case) as the best OL in football.

Will he return this year? Timing?

It would be difficult for a 3rd round rookie OT to become the top backup under normal circumstances. Considering that Green has already missed a good chunk of TC, it would be really difficult for him to win the backup OT job now. If he can't become the clear cut backup OT, then it's better to just keep him on the PUP.

I believe he is playing guard, because that is where he is competing for a starting spot and where they want him to play in the future. But in the event that Free were to do down, I doubt highly that they are going to stick Weems in there that hasnt played in two years over the first round monster of Collins. They could probably also shift our all pro 2nd year guard to tackle and put Collins in his guard spot.

Best 5 Olineman will be on the field.

Somewhere in all the media garbage is a direct quote from Pollock
on this whole subject....

Apparently, they are awaiting a Green return, said 4-6wks.....then they will assess his progress as he was to be the swing. I believe they will carry 8 OL if this holds true.... just my opinion

Of course, sticking Green on PUP isn't all that bad of deal temporarily

Collins wasn't even drafted
Chaz would have went higher had it not been for injury concerns and Collins would have went in 1st end if not for the drama around him that turned out to mean nothing
Can't get wrapped up in where they are picked
The problem is Chaz will miss most if not all of camp so not sure we get much out of him this year
But he does seem to have the talent worth developing. It's such a shame we won't get to see anything from him this year cause I'm worried a lot about our backups at OT

Yeah, I normally don't.

fwiw, we both know Collins not being drafted had zero to do with his ability.
All I was saying is that Chaz is sight unseen right now, so we sure can't talk about him like he for sure is gonna be good. Furthermore, I'm completely sure if we took all the lineman taken around where he was taken over the last 10 years, the odds would be low that in their rookie year they were making a big impact.

That was all. I just don't want to count on him this year.

Because of injury, probably land on the PUP to start the season.

Once he gets healthy and can start practicing we have something to talk about.

To me this was a very puzzling pick. The guy didnt even start some games for his team. He shared time. And he has an injury history. Most were surprised he went in the 3rd round. And after signing Collins after the draft, I am sure this is the pick they want back. Would have been a great spot to draft a back there.

Not really. His play spoke louder than any scouting report. In 556 snaps, he didn't allow a sack or have a false start/holding penalty. That's playing in the SEC.

His problem has been injuries.

Weems still has a chance to be OK. People are greatly underestimating how much of an impact not playing in a game for two years can have. He was bad, but Parnell struggled like that at times too.

Unless he becomes a really quality player I'll believe they should've taken an RB in that spot until the death of me.
