Virginia Tech Stats:
10 carries, 29 yards, 0 TDs, and a pathetic 2.9 YPC
0 receptions, 0 yards, 0 TDs, and obviously 0.00 Yard per catch
West Virginia States:
14 carries, 76 yards, 1 TD, and a really nice 5.4 YPC
3 receptions, 13 yards, 0 TDs, and 4.33 Yards per catch
His game against WVU was Ok, I suppose, and could have been better had he been given the ball more. I guess this one was more of a product of getting blown out. With that in mind though you'd think, with his recieving skills, he'd have been factored into the passing game a bit more. Just two weeks before that game he had a 5 catch, 136 yard, 2 TD performance in the passing game. It was against a much lesser opponent in North Carolina, however, and that has to be considered.
But, still, that doesn't make him OK against the top 25. He was passable against one and out right terrible against the other.
Now I'm not saying this cause I don't like the kid, I really do like him, but I wouldn't use doing OK against the top 25 as part of my argument.
Just my take on this:
The Va Tech game was opening game (CJ coming off a minor injury) at VT (a very tough place for offenses to play). Plus the ECU starting QB got suspended before the game and VT decided to totally load up vs the run. I think that game was not a good indicator. The game was close, but not much offense.
WVU just routed ECU, CJ was not too bad in that one. I'm also not sure how much he played later in the game. As a reciever, he is amazingly talented...but ECU really spreads it around, so a RB can be left out at times.
