Fair statement. The Jones Boys are the real issue. But that being said, the McClays of the world and all of the other "Yes" men/women are complicit because when is the last time there has been a REAL shakeup? The Bill Parcells days? They are all comfortable. Jason Garrett had no business being retained that long. And Mike Mcarthy and this coaching staff have no business coaching on the last year of their deals. Either extend them or move on. This upcoming year seems like it is going to be one big waste. But guess what? If it turns out better than expected, great! If not, oh well..30 years turns into 31 years and counting.
There are more personnel in an NFL front office than a pseudo general manager and coaching staff--even in Jerry Jones' version. All of them do the jobs they were hired to do. Those personnel (outside of the coaching staff) main responsible is gaining the best relevant data for improving the team, such as targeting optimal roster acquisitions, etc. Those personnel are not the decision-makers of the data they collect. Everything is presented to Jones and his offspring to approve or veto.
Call them Yes Men. You could be labeling them 99% correct. No one knows the daily inner working interactions with the front office from the outside. However, the front office is just another variation of a management structure found in any professional organization. There is always the possibility the Yes Men have done a great job, supplying solid input for upgradable change to Jones and his offspring, and they have rejected or tabled critical suggestions given to them. Why? Because those two believe they know better about professional football than the guys they keep bringing in and later firing. And again, I am not talking solely about coaches, so please do not beat me over the head about Jason Garrett's long tenure, lol.
What do I mean by fans letting them get away with it? The number of threads complaining about Daks contract demands. The number of threads complaining about Micah and his attitude and/or leadership The number of threads suggesting we should trade Micah and CD as opposed to extending them.
The Jones boys have built the richest empire in all of sports because they have convinced enough of us that the players are the "problem". I mean think about this for a second....why would you trust this front office with all of these premium draft picks as opposed to Micah and/or CD? It's like we are admitting that the Jones boys can't win with these top tier talents, but somehow know how to do something than haven't done in almost 30 years with a fresh crop of college kids. The Jones boys have mastered the art of monetizing HOPE!!!!!!!!!!!
But this is the real truth. Fans that believe....like Jerry....that he was very instrumental in the 3 SBs of the 90s simply don't get it. Since Jimmy Johnsons influence has left the building....we have like 4 or 5 playoff wins. Let that sink in!!!!! That's an average of 1 playoff win every 6 years!!!! In fact, this front office has NEVER won anything. Jerry the owner has won something, but Jerry the architect is averaging 1 playoff win every 6 (years! So the role Jerry played in those 3 Super Bowls is not the role he's been in since Jimmy left. So we are HOPING(there goes that word again) that one day Jerry will do something he has NEVER done!!!!!!!!!!! And if you want to argue that HOPING is what everyone does, I would agree with one caveat. NO ONE....NO ONE....gets 30 years to get it right!
To clarify, fans 'let them get away with it' by agreeing or disagreeing with the Jones' actions or lack of postseason success in the form of verbal commentary such as posts on a forum? Okay. I can kinda agree with that point-of-view according to any specific topic being discussed at any given time.
I was just curious whether 'letting them get away with it' was a false observation that fans were purposefully avoiding controlling Jones' actions through some sort of coercion. That particular accusation has been made a ton throughout the years here on CowboysZone.
And yeah. I believe Jones should have self-fired himself from all general manager duties no later than 2002. He is the franchise's owner, so his intractable stance is purely a selfish power move on his part. He could have easily hired four to six more qualified football executives than himself as general manager since then. He has not. Jones takes Charlton Heston's famous 'Pry it from my cold, dead hands!' phrase about the GM position to the nth degree, lol.
