Clabo or Winston which is the right choice ?

From the very little i've seen of Clabo he worries me.

As soon as his feet slow down he is down because he is such a lethargic guy.

He was dominant in pass protection against the Niners in the playoffs. Didn't give up any pressure at all.

He's not as good of a run blocker as Free, but vastly superior in pass protection.

Winston is not much better than Free, if at all.

He can be had for a virtual song, yet no offer is being made. Houston let him go, and now Kansas City has done the same. Neither made an offer to keep him.

If Winston is better than Free, it can't be by much. I find it odd that Winston is looking for a job with his 3rd team.

They wanted to lock up their younger left tackle to a long term deal, didn't have the salary cap space to keep both and also had one of the top picks in the draft this year where 3 OT's were expected to go in the first 5 picks.

I don't think you really understand why he was let go from both teams, but certainly your comment that 'no one is calling' was incorrect.

OK, we cut Free, we sign Clabo for what, 7 Million a year? The team has already said that they can't afford to pay 7 Million a year so what do you think the real number is? According to what I am hearing, the cap situation gets worse next year and so on. Remember, the Cowboys can't just cut Free and have his 7 Million in cap space. I believe that the team, regardless of Free being on the team or not, will owe him 6 Million. Now, if he's a June 1 cut, then that can be 3 million over two years but still, that's 6 Million in dead cap space so now, what we are really talking about is 4 Million to work with here. Can we sign either of those guys for 4 Million or less in future years?

I think he was in Miami yesterday. People are definitely calling and I think the Chiefs are also interesting Clabo. They are looking at signing him for less then what they can pay Albert and then either re-negotiating with Albert or trading him. Now, Albert is a guy I would do whatever it might take to sign. He's a guy that if we could get, would solidify our OL at tackle for a very long time.

KC wants a 2nd rounder for him and I would do that in a second because we are going to have to pay at least that in the draft but yeah, a trade is doable. The problem is that if we make the trade, we have to sign him to a contract and I am hearing that he wants in the area of 8 or 9 Million. If we could get him for 7, I would do it in a second but I don't know if he would come to Dallas for that. Might be interesting because there are no state taxes in Texas so that's a possible angle that could be worked but it would be real hard to get that done.

Exactly, if he could not play RT, or even if he could, I would probably move him to LT and return Smith to RT, his natural position. That would be pretty sweet. That would also help the interior line because Albert can also play LG. In fact, he would be the best LG we have on the team the minute he stepped on the field. Doesn't matter, I don't see it happening but if it could, that would be a move that would pay huge dividends IMO.
