$3.5m for Clabo, $1.5 guaranteed... I'll console myself in the Penguins & Thunder playoff victories

The Cowboys have dropped the ball...big time.

Cant argu with this post at all, Clabo would have been an upgrade over Free and anybody that doesn't think so needs to put the cool aid down.

I love how Parnell is supposed to be a stud now, the dude has like 3 career starts at the end of last season and all of a sudden he is penciled in as an opening day starter. Whats going to be even more funny is if Free beats him out in traning camp and sends his arse back to the bench.

I cant even imagine Free back in the starting lineup after last year.......wow

Just asking, was that a marked improvement over his previous ranking per PFF?

In 2010, Livings was the 48th ranked guard with a -2.8 rating.

In 2011, he was the 52nd ranked guard with a -4.7 rating.

In 2012, he was the 16th ranked guard with a +11.3 rating.

The funny thing is that from 2011 to 2012 his pass blocking dropped, but his run blocking greatly improved.

I wonder if it goes back to the observations made by some that Cincy's blocking scheme did not benefit Livings as a run blocker and the Cowboys rectified that.

Obviously his pass blocking needs to be better.

Well then it looks like something did improve under Callahan so I stand corrected on that.

So was Livings the lone bright spot on an otherwise poor run-blocking line?

Never understood the obsession with Winston and Clabo. Reminds me of something Bill Parcells said about backup QBs always being fan favorites as opposed to the starter. Did anybody actually watch these guys play?

Do I think Clabo might have been a slight upgrade over Free? Maybe. Marginally. If if Free is the 60th ranked tackle Clabo might have been 53rd. The reality is no matter who is playing tackle for us the spot is going to be a liability. Clabo was not the savior of the franchise and neither is Winston.

People blast him for it but the Mickey Spagnola rule is really common sense. In reality when guys get paid less or more then what fans perceive their value to be its because the fans perception is wrong. Clabo signed a cheap one year deal for a reason. He's not that good fellas.

Because almost everybody sees them as upgrades over the trash we trotted out there last season.

Yeah basically.

Smith regressed from 2011.

Free continually regressed from 2010.

Bern started out poorly and picked up some at the end, but still a poor campaign overall.

Cook did reasonably well. I'm surprised there isn't more talk about considering him a shot a RT, where he started his career.

Wasn't he playing with a bad knee as well? I would like to see a healthy Oline to start the season out, just to get a objective evaluation thru the 1st few games.

Upgrade is a very relative term and doesn't mean much. It's a bit like arguing over who you want starting at corner Lance Frazier or Jacque Reeves? Sure one is probably an "upgrade" over the other but really no matter what the position is a liability.

Clabo is so good that no team in the league was willing to offer him more then one year 3.5 million. Do guys fall through the cracks? Absolutely. But the fact the every scouting department in the league thinks this is telling. People are acting like we missed out on Erik Williams.

I can't believe the ruing over Clabo.

Clabo had a top 10 OT rating in 2012 by PFF, and Free was close to the bottom of the barrel.

I can believe the ruing.

Actually Clabo was 14th, but the point is understood.

5th RT
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3095/tyson-clabo

The move essentially locks in Jonathan Martin as the Dolphins' starting left tackle after an abominable rookie season. Miami is showing an awful lot of blind faith in last year's second-round pick. Clabo, going on age 32, graded out as the NFL's fifth-best right tackle in 2012, per Pro Football Focus' ratings. He was strong in both protection and run blocking, although 6-foot-6, 329-pound Clabo has always been a power blocker. He'll have to learn to zone block in Joe Philbin's scheme. May 5 - 10:38 AM

If Clabo was really the 14th best tackle/5th best right tackle in the league Atlanta doesn't cut him for nothing and he doesn't sign a one year deal worth 3.5 million.

Sometimes PFF can be interesting but their grading system is not to be taken seriously. There is example after example of this.

Please, don't bring that half-baked Mickey Spagnola-esque reasoning around here. Clabo was cut by Atlanta to free up cap space because they were just barely under the cap. Good players often get released around the NFL for the very reason.

Some fans will stoop to any depths to make excuses for their beloved Cowboys.

My take on this is I absolutely think Clabo or Winston would be huge upgrades over Free. That being said I don't know how the echo chamber got so loud over Clabo.

I think people are too quick to write their own narratives. A few questions:

1. Do you think the Cowboys Front Office hadn't talked to Clabo?
2. Do you think they didn't know how much Clabo would cost?
3. Do you think that Clabo gave Miami a discount?
4. Do you think that we could have competed against Miami in a bidding war for Clabo?
5. Do you think we could have given Clabo the same contract and he would come to the Cowboys?

Basically I want you to rewrite the narrative in reverse, and see if your original premise is a good one.

Is the thought that the Cowboys got caught with their pants down? What do you base this thought on?

I wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt on any of these when you consider how they screwed up waters two years ago, overpayed for bernie and livings, choosing brewster over levitre, and their overall mismanagement of the line the last decade.

cmon man lets not make this more difficult than it is. you even said earlier in the thread you would be interested to see how people would react if it was more than 5 million. Well it was significantly less than that. This team screwed this up big time.

I think Dallas never had any intention to sign them and that probably includes Moore. If they wanted Clabo, he would have been a Cowboy by now, Winston included.
