Claiborne in person is worse than on TV

Just got back from the game. Great win. Down 21-0 I was an unhappy camper. I will post my general thoughts in a separate thread but the horrid play of Mo deserves it's own thread. He is MUCH worse in person than on TV. I watched him on every snap and came away horrified. Yes, he got the pick at the end but that was nothing but an overthrow.

Deep speed= Nonew. He may be the slowest CB we have had since Anthony Henry. He can't catch anyone and WR's were constantly beating him down field. On top of his physical limitations he has no clue what he is doing. He spent half the game looking around for clues as to what he was supposed to do. One glaring play. I'll have to watch it to figure out where it was. But he was top of the field covering 13. A few seconds before the snap he started back peddling giving the WR a good 7-8 yard window to work with. At the last second he must have realized he was in the wrong coverage because he sprinted at full speed to the line, getting there as the ball was snapped. HE basically ran past the receiver, who was immediately six yards behind him. Luckily, Davis never saw it or it would have been another easy TD.

At best, he is the #4 CB on this team and for the money I would rather put Patmon out there. If we cut him tomorrow I would he a happy camper. Just an awful, awful player.

Rant over. Enjoyed the game. Love my fellow fans who showed up and packed the Jones dome!

I think its technique. He's a man corner and he doesn't seem to bump at the line which means he's already lost.

They mentioned this play on the broadcast. If Wilcox doesn't cover his butt that would have been a TD.

I've been saying for over a year that Claiborne is a bust, everyone is finally seeing it.

I thought claiborne was going to be a beast. I think honestly if he went o another team who took advantage of his attributes it would be a different story.

I just watched the game again a second time. What I see now is clearly in my opinion poor "football intelligence".

He isn't going to be here next year at this pace.

I recall he had a notoriously low wonderlic score. I think honestly he's just not that bright. A very telling play for me was when he tried to get up to return the interception at the end of the game when the victory was sealed if he just stayed down. Returning the int would have risked him fumbling it and giving the ball right back IMO, luckily he fell back down...

not really surprised since its proven he doesnt have the brains. you MUST have brains to be a corner or secondary. its not like DT where you just push and rush. secondary requires you read the QB, plan, anticipate, execute.

I think he's an idiot who was lucky to play on a great defense in a non-passing conference in college who for some reason was hyped to the moon by 'experts.'

And our GM fell for it and made an impulse buy on draft day.

He's a liability but I am sure the Cowboys will play him until he loses a game or two by himself to attempt to salvage the draft pick. <sigh> I'd prefer they play Patmon to see what he has, he won't be worse than Claiborne and might make it easier to forget about the dreadful pick if he plays the way he did in pre-season, seems to have much better instincts right out of the gate. Our drafting department needs fired and the Claiborne pick should have sealed their fate.

I like how people claim Claiborne is always trailing players but when he actually isn't and get's a pick its a "overthrow". The guy struggled today. But now it has gotten to the point where you discredit him for even the good plays he made?

There was another play where he jumped a bit early but played the ball well as well.

The guy is struggling. I don't think he's as struggling as Zoners will like for you to believe. He's just that new scapegoat.

But next week if he's struggling there's no shame in benching him for Claiborne or Moore but with the Aint's coming into town....you probably are going to be in nickel most of the game anyway.

He jumped the snap and was wrong. The qb probably got him with the cadence.

Uhhh yeah Patmon could be worse than Claiborne lol.

Let's don't kid ourselves on Claiborne. The guy was a top 10 pick. This isn't reaching like a 2nd rounder and taking him in the top 10.

Didn't the Cowboys view him as the best corner back prospect since Deion Sanders?

On the long pass he allowed he didn't jam ther receiver at all. I noticed througout the game we weren't challenging them like we did last week. We played real soft in coverage. We can't do that next week.

Exactly. On the ball that was overthrown he was in position and played the ball perfectly. If the ball had been underthrown he would have broken in on it and had an even easier interception.

An amazing analysis without the benefit of replay.

He got beat plenty. He also came up with a game winning play. Be happy and hope he builds on it

well clearly our esteemed brain trust doesnt think so because they traded up to get him and continue to draft dumb or idiot DBs who get cut and cant even make the practice squad.
