Claiborne status up in the air?

I was watching ESPN earlier this morning and saw a snip-it from ESPN (Dallas) that read something like this -- Garrett: Claiborne status up in the air.

Of course I was trying to speculate exactly what was meant without having read the actual article. Just don't have the time. I doubt the writer meant anything regarding status due to injury. So it might mean that the confidence the coaches have in Mo is beginning to dwindle.

I have always stood by the pick of Morris Claiborne, but for some reason since coming out of LSU, he has yet to live up to his billing. With that said, I really like Sterling Moore and that kid Patmon. If Garrett has any reservations about Mo, now is the time to see what Patmon or Moore have going for them as starters. IMHO, I honestly do not believe there would be any drop off in play replacing Mo with one of these two guys I just mentioned. At the very least, if the Cowboys brass decided to go with Sterling or Patmon and it didn't pan out, it's not like the level of play would decline. If anything, the level of play would be on par with what we are currently seeing in Mo. Then again, the level of play just might begin to trend upwards with Patmon or Sterling manning an island opposite Carr/Scandrick.

Now before anyone blows a gasket; I do realize that our secondary is handicapped due to a lack of a consistent pass rush, YET AGAIN. But the lack of a consistent pass rush has been a problem for the Cowboys for the last 2 to 3 seasons. So regardless, it might be time to sit our 1st round CB for a bit; and let's see what we have in this Patmon kid, or Moore. The secondary is going to have to come around and help out. Let the best players play. For that to happen, sometimes you have to change things up to actually find out.
I am not here to bash Mo, but I believe we might have a solution between 2 other players on our team not named Morris Claiborne. I do hope that Jason Garrett and Rod Marinelli have mulled this over; and maybe, just maybe, that little ESPN (Dallas) "teaser" means that Garrett and Rod are considering the options.

If Mo remains the starter, nothing will change regarding my support for the kid. It'll be 100%. But I truly hope that if Moore or Patmon are having better practices, and out-performing Morris during the week, they need give one of those two guys a legitimate shot.

Amen?

It <wouldn't> completely shock me to see Mo released -- as crazy as it seems. It would only <slightly> shock me...

Sometimes an organization just comes to the conclusion a guy isn't good and is never going to get better. If they feel he is the 4th or 5th best CB on the team it's probably better to release him than to deal with the media distraction of having a guy they've invested so much so far down on the bench.

Ie, GM's don't like seeing their busts (ie their mistakes) every day on the practice field. It reminds them of their mistakes.

It's just funny how he acted after the pick. Proved that training camp bravado was fake. If it were real he would've got up,spiked the ball and screamed loud enough so every critic could hear. Instead he looked like he wanted to cry lol. Weak dude

I'm not sure that is the case with JJ; he seems to counter that by hanging onto drafted players a little too long @ times. Goodrich was the first player that came to mind. Same with Roy towards the end of his career. Matty Johnson is probably the most recent example (excl. Mo)

I don't profess to know what his cap hit is/would be, but given that he's playing on his rookie contract (which can't be major $$) I think the brass will be willing to let him play out his contract in hopes that he comes around at least some and go from there. I don't see any way they just cut him. JMO

Why release him? Keep him till his rookie contract runs out as your 4 th CB.

Because if he is the 4th CB he is an embarrassment to the front-office that spent the mother-load on drafting him and the coaching staff that failed to develop the best CB prospect to come out the NFL draft since Deion Sanders in 1989.

Ie, everybody at all levels of the organization becomes embarrassed of the massive failure and having to deal with the guy every day just reminds them (and the media) of that failure.

I disagree. I think if he had gotten up and celebrated like that after getting torched all game would have looked pretty bad, and he knew that.

i was at the game sunday and he didn't look very good at all but he made a huge play at the end of the game I still think they keep him until his rookie deal runs out. I truly hope he improves losing really high first round picks makes u pay, it really hurts your team.

I believe your probably right, however, as I mentioned before it wouldn't shock me either if they cut him.

That's not a celebration. It's being PISSED that you played so garbage. Him looking so relieved showed e doesn't truly believe.

I think it is up to Moore and Patmon to win the job in practice. If they are out performing Claiborne during the week then they deserve the chance to play on Sunday.

I think the status refers to when Garrett was asked if he would bench Claiborne.

Not cut him.

I guess I would be shocked just because it wouldn't cost that much to see this thing through to see where he ends up. If he had legal problems, attitude problems, etc., I could see the possibility, but that hasn't been the case. Granted, the outcome seems bleak, but they've put too much in the pot to fold before seeing the last card.

Scandrick and Carr ate the starters, Claiborne was starting because of scandrick suspension.

That being said maybe Moore and Patmon haven't beat out Claiborne in practice and no matter how much you guys dislike him doesn't mean he is that bad. Carr has given up TDs and big plays, Church, Romo, Dez, Murray all of your favorites have messed up and given up big plays but because y'all like them they get a pass? That's not right call it like you see it. While Claiborne has gave up plays he has also made big plays. Let the season play out 3 year rule people
