Clarence Hill: Look for the Cowboys to draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round

Leary went undrafted cause of a injury red flag. He wasn't the worse, that was Doug Free. Green has pro bowl potential, Zion would be a very good player day 1.
Good players is not gonna cut it if you can get a wide receiver 1 or pass rusher at 24. Guards are not a premium position for the the Cowboys way of thinking. I see Cross is coming in for 30 day visit. A trade up perhaps or is he falling. Supposedly a Tyron Smith clone.

This team has done the bare minimum in free agency. I doubt they spend premium picks moving up.

Their plan is to go super cheap across the board and have 6-8 guys make the 53 on rookie deals.

You are probably right but if Cross falls to when the Eagles start drafting, the Cowboys might want to jump on it. A second round pick along with the 24th pick is not to much to give up for Tyron’s apprentice.

If you include all the dumb WR trades this front office has made in the last 22 seasons involving first round picks, plus the actual first round WRs selected in the draft, the Cowboys have used 6 first round picks on WRs.

Four first rounders were used in the Galloway, Roy Williams and Cooper trades; and two WRs (Dez and Lamb) were actual first round selections.

So yeah, I can see this FO overlooking its glaring weaknesses on both OL and DL and go ahead and select a WR in the first round. Even though talent at the WR position is THE easiest to find in later rounds.

linemen don’t sell jerseys, Bob. That’s what’s important around here.

Your dream could come true. They were at both Alabama and Georgia pro days looking at the lines. MM and Quinn both saw the workouts in person.
Saw a mock this morning that had them taking Nakobe Dean, after a trade down. Not sure if I can buy that with this team.

I definitely don’t put it past this team to do the dumbest thing possible and use yet another 1st round pick on the most plentiful position in the game.

If you want to run the football and give our QB a pocket to work with, the interior lineman are very important. We are picking at 24, throw out positional value, take the best player on your board.

I think I’m going to be sick if they take another WR in the 1st round…

2nd round at the earliest.

I get the position is becoming super expensive and the savings you net of drafting them early but we already have a 1st rounder and a 10+ mil dollar WR in MG. Protect the QB and you don’t need 3 stud WRs.
Exactly. And what good would three stud WRs be, if they are spending their time running around the footfall field for their health while the QB is laying on his back because he doesn't have enough time to throw any of them the football.

I will always agree that you start with the trenches and how you succeed is usually decided by the trenches. With this said, Dallas won't be able to run well again till they get a TE that can at least block a little bit.
The biggest need this team has is LG, and truthfully maybe C-LT. With that said it is biggest NEED, but not biggest IMPACT.

Biggest IMPACT is 1T on D that is dynamic. Biggest IMPACT on offense is a TE that helps with the running game and is good enough to be a dynamic RAC guy for check down charlie.

Dallas will draft high another WR that is a good receiver, and that is fine, except that there is still only one ball. There are only 5 places you can throw the ball on any one play. I have been told we have the #1 in CD. #2 in Gallup (Washington his backup). Zeke can go/stay in to pick up blitzes or go flats #5. So we need a #3 and #4. #4 is the TE, who needs to be able to block strong side and be the check down charlie. So who is the #3???? Why do we keep pushing for a high level WR right now? We need a #3 WR. Preferably one who is a great ko/punt returner or one with elite speed to get deep. Danny Gray has 4.33 speed and 6'1" size. He can be had 3rd day. Fehoku has straight line speed and can clear out sides allowing for CD to line up in the slot. I do not see the huge need for a high draft pick WR. Pollard at #3WR could get those balls since we always seem to want him to get more touches.

So my expectations is that Dallas will take a WR with a high draft pick. They will ignore 1T or get a guy late that is not dynamic at all. They will take a TE that is really just another WR or one that is really just another lineman, not dynamic at all. I know they will do this because they seem to always try to build opposite of how I would build and the last 26 years proves to me that they think they are smarter than everyone, but aren't.

Not hijacking your thread but this thought this was interesting

Unless Penning was minorly injured during the combine, I don't want that dude - he looked stiff and unathletic. Raimann looked 10X quicker and more agile and just as strong.

Did you see my Travis Jones post today? Full agree, they need that top end NT. As for the OL/TE, what gives us hope there are several players they have shown interest with that will really boost our line. The TE's, outside the A&M one, are all plus inline blockers and potentially better as pass catchers then Shultz. We have seen a lot of Centers, which suggest they want to at least add competition.

I think the combination of Gallup's recovery and what they really think of Lamb is going to affect that.

Booger is going to be concerned with who does Prescott throw to and I will be surprised if going into the season with Lamb-Washington-Brown is going to thrill him.

It looks like a minimum of 6 WR's in the 1st so we will be a little on edge.

This is going to be like the Manziel draft when I tried to anticipate Goodell and read his lips and every time he didn't say "Quarterback Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M" the tension built. The one I am concerned about is Traylon Burks falling because they know him all too well. And the son isn't going to interfere because of off the field concerns as he did with Manziel. Burks is a warrior and his coaching staff at AR loved him. That's how they ended up with Yosemite, they had some inside info from the AR HC.

The other part of this is McC, Moore or any of the offensive coaching staff comfortable enough in their jobs to tell Booger they're OK at WR? Someone told him that before and he ended up trading for Cooper because they were wrong.

WR in the 1st would not be a disaster because they really don't know about DL or OL working out. Charlton was a 1st rounder.

McCarthy traditionally has drafted DBs in round 1 and WRs in round 2…but obviously new environment for him.

Would love to see some more of the 2nd/3rd round WRs added to the visits list as that would make waaaaaaay more sense IMO.

Olave is the only WR I’d consider in rd1 and he won’t make it past Wash

OG is not a premium position for the Cowboys?

They took Martin #16 overall, Connor Williams in the 2nd round, and McGovern in the 3rd most recently.

Martin was a tackle in college and a much better prospect then Green/Zion. That it why I would trade up and draft the tackle that falls.

The Cowboys had zero intentions of ever playing Martin or Williams at tackle.

They value the OG position.
