Classless Redsk*n move

Didn't realize you were native american.

You learn something new every day. From looking at recent polls around ten percent of native Americans finds the term offensive. That is a very low percentage if the word is such a terrible racial slur. It seems like people that are not native Americans are the ones that are offended.

Was your family pushed to the brink of extinction? Maybe you aren't the right person to comment on what is or isn't offensive.

I have enough native American blood to open a casino legally lol. It is not something I discuss much, but do you think I should be able to comment now? The term describes my ancestors, which in turn could be used to describe me I suppose. So I guess that would qualify me as being a person that should be offended if it was an offensive term. I just happen to be a person that don't get offended by your so called racial slurs.

also, from the research i've done, "Commanders" is because they put red paint on their faces, not because of the color of their skin.

people need to stop the witch hunt for things to be offended by.

I feel like I'm in the 1984 book.

There is a lot of data....and support, that says....you are!!!!!

Being alll that a it may ....I'll say this...

Here come the redsk*ns ,,,,,throw out the records and everything else........ This one has me concerned....we need to sweep the ski*s

A loss here would be bad. To the fans mind you. The players , its a business, and will come out Sunday like nothing is wrong...

based on the responses in this thread so far it seems as though I am the only one confused by the OP.

How is ranking Tom Landry the #1 cowboy classless? is there something I am missing here?

I don't take offense to comments by Commanders it is all part of the hated rivalry the two teams have had dating back to the days of George Allen. I think it makes the game more interesting and more intense when you have a rivalry as this. Just consider the source and laugh it off

Yeah, the historians that wrote the origin of the name studied them, got to know them, broke bread with them, learned things from them, then proceeded to systematically slaughter them. On that note: GO COWBOYS!!:D

This thread isn't about the Sk*ns' name. It's about their lack of class when it comes to the history of the rivalry. The *'s are to question the validity of your past Superbowls, two of which are tarnished for obvious reasons.

Nobody cares about your racist name being racist.

Just a question: Did the Commanders have an unfair advantage over other teams in the shortened season? Or did every team play the same shortened schedule? I never get this asterisk for winning a title in a shortened season, crap. I think it's just as classless.

You have a good point. I wonder if the Cowboys would have won the Super Bowl in those years if an asterisk would be needed.

Holy logical inconsistencies Batman! So the Redsk*ns owner, who you exclaim as a profound racist, named his prized possession, his football team, a term that you exclaim is profoundly racist? Why on Earth would he do such a thing, unless one of your suppositions is in error? I know which one I would wager on...

EDIT: What the heck, what kind of Orwellian ball pit puts an asterisk in Redsk*ns? Like we don't know what the word is? This place might be the silliest on the Internet and that is saying something brother...

Funny, you didn't refute one single fact in my post. The man was a clear racist and didn't even try and hide it. I think it's very logical that a massive racist looking for a new team name with a Native American theme looked around and chose a term that was becoming more and more derogatory. The word is defined in every major dictionary as being racist and was chosen by a known racist. It's not very hard to connect the dots if you don't have blind loyalty clouding your vision.

Personally I have no problem with the name, no one names their team with the intent to insult they do so with the intent to show pride. Some native americans take offense while others do not but again I do not believe for a second that the name was choosen to be insulting.

It does take weak people to fear words. Sticks and stones. But then we have so many professional victims anymore. With all the real problems in this country it is a comment on those crying about this that they consider it important.

The name Redsk*ns was never considered racist until all this PC bull**** now. Redsk*n was actually considered honorable and brave. But you know the media.

Wrong.

I grew up in Central New York and knew plenty of people from the Algonquin, Oneida, Cayuga, Senaca, Tuscarora tribes and many of them hated the Commanders name and were greatly offended by it.

And none of those people were in the media.

to believe in freedom is to believe in the right to offend.

it's really sad society is getting to the point where we think the collective gets to decide how/what people do with their private property.

Frankly because a SMALL number of people say they are offended suddenly things have to change. Guess what - the Constituition and the Declaration of Independence says nothing about being offended as a reason to do anything.

Personally, I'm not offended by it because I do not have any Native American blood in me.

But, I do know plenty of Native Americans that hate that name. (and the polls the Commanders use have been proven to be manipulated).

I don't feel that Snyder and Skins fans are intentionally trying to be racist against Native Americans.

But I do believe that they are letting their ego get in the way of all of this.

The league and Snyder should be above resorting to a name that clearly offends people. I'm sure if I became the owner of a franchise in LA and called them the 'Los Angeles Jew Boys' and had an orthodox Jew as the mascot, Snyder would be outraged by it even if I were 'celebrating the Jewish culture.'

I think Snyder and Skins fans deep down feel that if they get rid of the Commanders nickname, they will admit that they were wrong and then they feel that admittance means that they were racist against Native Americans. I personally would not feel that way. I would feel that they inherited a team with a nickname and they were trying to ignore something that really didn't pertain to them. Instead, they let their ego get in the way and go into spin control and go to war against those that are offended by the name.
