This is for all the guys who are insisting we need to upgrade our coaching. If Linehan was fired today, who would you want to bring in as your OC to replace him?

I don't know who might be available. Probably some retread. I guess you could have Garrett calling the plays. Otherwise maybe bring in a consultant? About all that is available right now are retreads that are probably no better than Linehan.

Let's say that Garrett gets canned at the end of the season and Linehan is also fired. What direction are you going to go? A guy lik Lincoln Riley would be ideal as OC but that's never going to happen.

You could bring in some mad scientist like Mike Leach or one of his progeny, but that's dicey because we need a running game and they want to pass it on every down.

I honestly think we would have a really hard time replacing these guys with a CURRENT upgrade. Maybe The Hoodie after New England implodes after the end of this year.

I think you fire Garrett and replace him with Marinelli while giving Richard a more DC role. Let the offense run wild until next season. Marinelli will get some minor role in the FO and Richard DC. Hire a HC and OC.

First off, there is next to no one who would come in and without being involved prior to now, successfully adapt to a winning formula at this point in the season. The Cowboys are forced to ride out a rough route, unless someone quits...then responsibility moves up the chain.

If they are fired now, let Richards take over as interim HC.

At seasons end I'd look at maybe shanahan if avail or someone under Andy Reid's coaching tree.

Not sure much changes till we get the jonses out of the front office, let McClay put together a full roster.

Linehan is a dumpster fire. I'd seriously rather have Kellen Moore as OC.

I cant think of any off the top of my head.

Unless you find yourself with options with coaches ready to take the next step in the offseason, you just kinda have to take your chances.

If I had to pick one, I wouldnt feel great about it but I'd probably take Bieniemy from KC. Youd have to make him HC, and this is only his first year as OC, but if he could bring in his staff, including some of the guys working with Mahomes, thatd probably be my pick.

Not a whole lot to work with right now.

Scott Frost is an interesting college name.

He was at Oregon for 6 years, took over a terrible UCF team and is currently #1 scoring offense or something. The guy can coach.

Remove all Jones’ from football operations, move McClay to GM/Pres of football operations and let him hire all coaches, scouts, and training staff.

Let the Jones’ handle publicly and marketing.

I've heard the much-derided Brad Childress is working as a "spread game consultant" in KC and is really helping to engineer their video game offense over there.

Now part of that is that Reid's always had a knack for coaching up QBs (anyone remember Kevin Kolb and AJ Feeley?), and part of it is that KC is giving their cannon-armed QB a stupid amount of speed on the field to make plays, so it's a good situation by default. But Childress had drawn up this almost NCAA style offense that has a second year Air Raid QB absolutely cooking. I'd bring him in and see what kind of plans he'd have in mind for Dak to run a more college-style offense like he's doing with Mahomes. Maybe you could end up making Childress the OC.

There isn't anyone we could bring in during the season. A new OC would help next season, but only if Jerry is willing to castrate Garrett even further by telling him he has no control or say in how the offense is handled. Tell Garrett, you'll have the title of HC, but really you're just the spokesperson for the team, just speak with the media and leave the rest of the duties to the assistants. In that case, we might as well hire a new HC. Right now, we should be spending time scouting the NFL and college ranks and evaluating their performances, but need to leave JJ and SJ out of those evaluations.

The easiest way to fix this offense is run a college style offense. Take what Dak did well in college and just use that. Garrett and Linehan are fools thinking they should run their old 90s style offense.

I'd love to Childress here as our coach. We already have speedy receivers. We just need a playbook thats uses Dak's strength and his mobility. Then were good to go.

Way before Linehan, Garrett's crap playbook was ignored by Tony Romo ...

Now that the OC (Romo) is no longer here to save Garrett, he is done... Put a fork in him .

Don’t matter who we bring in as OC, if they are forced to use JG playbook then we are in the same boat. If they bring there own then a transitional period takes place. We have problems across the board with position coaches and HC. The players are not focused and lazy. Watch the film. The staff was on Rico for his blocking. In the seahags game he may have been the only one blocking. Players are lazy and unprepared. This could go all the way to JJ and the culture he brings. But I would start with the fact that perhaps the players don’t respect JG anymore. He isn’t or cant get them focused or prepared.

The thing that makes me shake my head about this offense is this: By last November, Garrett knew the offense needed an overhaul. Defenses were routinely stuffing the run and the passing game was broken. A once effective offense was stagnant.

What did Garrett and Linehan do to fix it? Apparently almost nothing. Does this offense look any different with formations, tendencies, and adjustments to what the league has been doing to stymie this offense since the Denver game last year?

And the worst part of it all is you can’t overhaul an offense in the middle of the season. Especially with a HC and OC that are about as creative as a drill sargeant. When I watch a Cowboys game now, they are running the same plays, same stuff they did when Romo was here in 2014, with a QB whose skill set is completely different than Romo. Garrett’s biggest failure as an offensive coach is his inability to change the offense to match the skills of the players he has.

Firing Linehan or even Garrett at this point will change little. Jerry may have to fire JG by mid season if it’s obvious this team has quit on his developing “Tom Landry” and it’s obvious they aren’t going anywhere. Being 1-2 isn’t a death sentence yet for an NFL team, but something feels different this year. Because it all looks the same.
