That’s what I was thinking. Just get the ball and score put them in catch up mode right off the bat.
It’s been when we’ve been in catch up mode that we’ve struggled. It allows opponents to run the ball instead of having to throw. We’re built to rush the passer not stop the run.

Take the ball and have Aubrey immediately kick an 85-yarder on 1st down as a big ** to GB.

Defer and play Great Defense to set the tone. They are a young team so we need to pop them early setting the tone.

Take the ball first and score. Make the Packers play from behind from the get-go.

I’m taking the ball. If we can drive the ball down field for 6, not only is that good on paper for us record wise, it sends the message right away to Green Bay that they are in for a long day at the offense. It also can change the play calling from their end offensively which could play into our hands

I almost universally say defer and have been a huge proponent of doing so.

However, I think they should take the ball this time. The Defense has been giving up lots of early points to teams and they seem to be playing much better with a lead. So, against my better judgement and the very solid common sense arguments that go to deferring, that's my answer. Take the ball, drive against that horrid Packer defense, score, set the tone.

The funny thing here...is that there are some real dummies, even announcers, even COACHES....that think chosing one option over the other gives you statically a better chance to have more possessions than the other team.

Just pick whichever u want. If you want to get rid of the early game jitters, put ur defense out first and let them go fly around and bang heads. If u feel your team is just clicking offensively and doesn't have butterflies, put the offense out first and try to get the first score....which is always nice to have.

You just have to know your team...but there's no universal right or wrong answer

Always defer. Gives you the potential opportunity to score last in the first half and first in the second half.

I've heard a coach reference the middle 8 (last 4 mins. of the first, and first 4 mins. of the second half) as being critical to win.
Likewise, if you take the ball 1st, you have the opportunity to have the first and last possessions of the game...so you could score 1st and score last.

It's a matter of preference....but neither one or the other gives a team a statistical advantage.... unless they convince themselves (incorrectly) that it does. But it's no different than convincing yourself (incorrectly) that dark socks or white socks gives you an advantage

With all do respect to your sock analogy, what percent of the coin tosses won went the way of defer? Does it stop at 10 to 1? Coaching decision, correct? Outcome win percentage aside, I believe teams prefer to flex on the offense following half time adjustments.

That's a somewhat confusing post.

The worst thing that could happen is when packers score first. the nerves and pressure will be rising with the possibility that we are going to play against ourselves.just start with the ball, get some first downs and go from there

I’ll try to clarify. I would imagine the option to defer to 2nd half is taken at about a 10 to 1 ratio, If the outcomes is the same, kick or receive, why is the decision to defer (kick) the overwhelming option?

Coaches clearly are hoping for the opportunity to double dip - score before the half and immediately following.

I agree that the outcome percentages are probably close to 50/50 but the potential to score before and after half is too appealing.
