Likewise, if you take the ball 1st, you have the opportunity to have the first and last possessions of the game...so you could score 1st and score last.

It's a matter of preference....but neither one or the other gives a team a statistical advantage.... unless they convince themselves (incorrectly) that it does. But it's no different than convincing yourself (incorrectly) that dark socks or white socks gives you an advantage
I dont get how having the ball first in half 1 has anything to do with increasing the chances of having it last, where do people get that? The game resets to start the second half, having more minutes in half 1 actually decreases your chances of having more minutes on O in the second half

Right.

Getting the ball first in the 1st half does not increase the chance of having it last in the 2nd half.

Just like getting the ball first in the 2nd half doesn't increase your odds of getting it last in the 1st half (the back-to-back possessions everyone keeps talking about

Whether you defer or receive the opening kickoff has no affect on your chances of having more possessions.

In every game there are 3 possible outcomes, if you exclude overtime games: You can have the same # of possessions as the other team, or you can end up with 1 more possession, or 1 less possession. But deferring or receiving statistically doesn't affect it.

So teams should just do what they like...

I prefer to defer. I just don’t think it matters that much. If they decide to take the ball. I can understand that also.

They both have their positives and negatives.

Always defer. You’d rather kickoff at 0-0 than have to kick off down 17-7 after a rough first half.

Should receive. Score on the first drive and the game is done and dusted in this particular situation. The only way the packers win is scoring on their first drive while amped up to the max. If they are down they will make mistakes. If they start 7-0 they have a chance to win.

Defer is always the right strategy...if the Cowboys are undefeated when scoring first then the defense needs to force a punt to start off then. You don't know how the game will go but it's always valuable to have that first possession to start the 2nd half, whether you are down or leading.

Except that it makes no difference whatsoever in terms of who wins the game.

Yes that's exactly what I said.

Doesn't matter if you lose 42-14 as long as you score at the end of the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd quarter...
