Colin Cowherd says Dak Prescott is simply living off an obsolete reputation at this point:

I don't have a problem with anyone saying Dak has made poor decisions or played poorly at time this season, but Cowterd makes almost as stupid a statement as the guy who said he quit on this boys because he shouldn't miss any time for a hamstring injury.

How can a guy be living off "an obsolete reputation at this point" when he played great last season, well enough to be considered one of the top QB performances and at least in the MVP discussion? IF he had played last season without Pollard and Cooks and with this OL, I'm sure he would have played poorly then as well. Cooks is not special, but he's better than anyone else we are running out there, and he had respect. Pollard had an off year last season in our running game because of the OL, but defenses still accounted for him because he was the only guy besides Lamb who might take it to the house at any moment. This year we don't have any playmakers besides Lamb who clearly wasn't the same by sitting out of camp, and the OL has struggled, though improving.

In my opinion, Dak is very much like Goff. Give him weapons and decent protection, and he can help you win, maybe win everything, but the Cowboys never put together a solid team like the Lions have now. Something is always missing and has been since the 90's. It's the OL; it's the secondary, it's the receivers, then the entire defense. This team cannot run the ball or defend the run or generate a pass rush, and it can only sustain anything through the passing game if all the targets go to Lamb and the blocking holds up.

Do you think Goff would be a solid franchise QB if the Lions had no running backs or blocking to threaten a defense, and had only St Brown at WR?

Again, I'm not excusing Dak for trying to do too much and throwing bad passes and making bad decisions. We cannot win with him turning the ball over, but this is the same guy that had an excellent year last year. The problem with this team goes much deeper than the QB. While he can and should be playing better, I don't believe for an instant that this team would have a better record than it does now. Jerry made a mess of this roster and coaching after signing a QB who needs more than 1 receiver and at least a threat of a run game.

It's almost silly to continue the Dak talk because he IS the franchise QB whether one likes it or not. It's Jerry's job to build a team around him knowing that he is not a QB who can do it alone.

You dare to compare Goff to Dak?
Have you seen Goff play?
There is 0 comparison in the arm and mental category talent including pocket awr.
Heck Goff doesn't even break a sweat............OMG have you see our guy?
Lets compare............

Nothing will change regardless the QB because the Cowboys suck. Even Dak said we bleeping suck in a video of him mouthing the words on the sidelines last week.

Which guy played better last year? Which guy did McVay give up on?
I think they are very similar QBs. Both need a solid team around them. Goff has a running game, multiple receivers, a top OL, and a very good front 7 and pass rush. Dak has Lamb....period. Still, Dak has played poorly. Neither of these guys are Mahomes or Allen or Jackson. They are both above average players who need a good team. This season one has it, and is showing how great he can be with all the pieces. It's not hard to understand, Pappy. You can hold your line on Dak without being silly about it. There are several above average QB's who would look great on that Lions team. In my opinion, only Mahomes, Allen, and Jackson can make a crappy team look good now and then.

Watch Goff and Prescott when they both have time to throw. Goff is FAR more precise with his ball placement. Dak's completions are often horrible throws. There's no comparison between these 2, and it's obvious why Goff went #1 overall while Dak fell into the 4th round. Dak had mobility when younger, but now he has nothing.

In the last 9 seasons, there is only 1 game where Dak looked like a QB in Goff's class.
The win vs the 8-9 Bucs in the playoffs.
Name me another and please not another sum.500 team.

Fangio’s quip about not prepping any differently for Rush versus Dak just reinforces that Dak isn’t anything special. He’s not a gamechanger. He’s not a straw that stirs the drink. He’s not an elevator for those around him on the field. He’s completely dependent on the talent surrounding him in a way that truly elite QBs are not. Iow, he’s a decent QB that can make NFL throws. This league has been grossly overpaying these types of QBs since Joe Flacco won a SB. This problem is league-wide and not just a Dak/Jerry issue. Granted I expect Jerry, or any GM for that matter, to put a stop to this insanity and as of now, by and large, the league hasn’t had an owner/GM tell a Dak-like QB to go pound sand when such a QB wants to reset the FA market. They end up paying. I’m hoping the Niners are the first team to do this if Purdy thinks he’s worthy of resetting the FA QB market.
Good stuff.

I like Purdy, but he's being shackled and hurt by being in that horrid QB destroying Kyle Shanahan O. Long developing routes getting him killed. Same thing happening in Houston w/ Stroud. Houston's OC, Slowiak, is a KShanahan disciple, and he's getting Stroud killed w/ that HS Offense. Stroud got sacked like 8 times in his last game vs Jets.

Kind of sounds like he is talking about Arron Rodgers. Dak was second in MVP voting just last season which means his reputation in not obsolete. He definitely got off to a bad start this season and is now injured but 8 games isn't living. I'd give him a little more time before I lay this on him.
Dude. Sportswriters pick the MVP. Dak being 2nd in MVP voting means he's a FF stud. His reputation around real NFL people is indeed obsolete. Man, you gotta find better backing for your ideas.

The preseason rating that I saw had Dak at 11th.

Please stop parroting this. He got one singular vote. It's not like he was actually in contention.

Second-place MVP doesn't even mean much but I keep seeing it touted like a badge of honor. He didn't win it because he played poorly vs. Arizona, SF, and Buffalo last year. If they won any of those games then they would have finished with the top seed in the NFC and he probably beats out Lamar.

Other than that, Dak has no other achievements or accomplishments compared to his peers. Lamar has 2 MVPs and even though his playoff history has been spotty, at least he finally got them to the conference championship. Josh Allen has made it to the conference championship. Joe Burrow made it to a Super Bowl and is the only QB who has beaten Allen and Mahomes in the playoffs. Even someone like Jared Goff has made it to the conference championship with 2 different teams. And Dak fans are disgusted to think Goff is even in the same conversation as Dak.

There are so many QBs who have their own flaws and question marks but even they have accomplished more than Dak. Dak is just not a QB worthy of keeping for 9+ years.

I don’t believe this. Was his play down? Absolutely, but the entire team is having an injury plagued down year. From my perspective he’s trying to keep the haters engaged because he (and all the other talking heads) understand what the cowboys mean to their ratings and negative drives way more views than positive. A phenomenon we witness here in the zone if we’re being honest.
