I don't have a problem with anyone saying Dak has made poor decisions or played poorly at time this season, but Cowterd makes almost as stupid a statement as the guy who said he quit on this boys because he shouldn't miss any time for a hamstring injury.
How can a guy be living off "an obsolete reputation at this point" when he played great last season, well enough to be considered one of the top QB performances and at least in the MVP discussion? IF he had played last season without Pollard and Cooks and with this OL, I'm sure he would have played poorly then as well. Cooks is not special, but he's better than anyone else we are running out there, and he had respect. Pollard had an off year last season in our running game because of the OL, but defenses still accounted for him because he was the only guy besides Lamb who might take it to the house at any moment. This year we don't have any playmakers besides Lamb who clearly wasn't the same by sitting out of camp, and the OL has struggled, though improving.
In my opinion, Dak is very much like Goff. Give him weapons and decent protection, and he can help you win, maybe win everything, but the Cowboys never put together a solid team like the Lions have now. Something is always missing and has been since the 90's. It's the OL; it's the secondary, it's the receivers, then the entire defense. This team cannot run the ball or defend the run or generate a pass rush, and it can only sustain anything through the passing game if all the targets go to Lamb and the blocking holds up.
Do you think Goff would be a solid franchise QB if the Lions had no running backs or blocking to threaten a defense, and had only St Brown at WR?
Again, I'm not excusing Dak for trying to do too much and throwing bad passes and making bad decisions. We cannot win with him turning the ball over, but this is the same guy that had an excellent year last year. The problem with this team goes much deeper than the QB. While he can and should be playing better, I don't believe for an instant that this team would have a better record than it does now. Jerry made a mess of this roster and coaching after signing a QB who needs more than 1 receiver and at least a threat of a run game.
It's almost silly to continue the Dak talk because he IS the franchise QB whether one likes it or not. It's Jerry's job to build a team around him knowing that he is not a QB who can do it alone.
