That's what I think. Not sure why people trip so hard about the notion. His a first round talent and played tackle at a high level in the best conference in college football. Why is this such a leap for so many people??!
Good post.

I keep hearing that Collins can't play at right tackle. This is an honest question ........how many of you believe Collins would be an immediate upgrade over Doug Free if we resigned Leary? Free is a walking turnstile/penalty maker.

Collins has NEVER played a down at right tackle in his career(high school, college and Pros).....and his measurements says he's a guard in the NFL where measurables is what scouts and coaches look for....

And the reason why he played tackle in college was because of numerous injuries to tackles on the team....

Dak Ms measurables got him to be a 4th rounder and Brady a 6th. I'm just sayin.

Exactly.

Many unfortunately think that just because a guy is a decent LT in college is that he's automatically going to be a good RT in the NFL...

Ah, no.

We know it was not hand size...LOL!

Personally I don't think it had anything to do with measureables that caused Prescott to fall...

One factor was the system that he was in.

The second factor didn't have to do with his size, arm-strength and foot-speed.

I don't know if Collins can play RT or not. And I don't think the Cowboys have enough information to know without a doubt either.

Whether that means he ever gets another shot there, who knows? But I'd like to see him get a chance out there.

I think we all know that Doug Free is on his last legs and is becoming more of a liability by the day, so the team needs to have some other option.

Why not give Collins a shot at the job? If he's successful, the team looks only stronger moving forward. If not, he simply goes back to left guard to compete or beat out Jonathan Cooper. From my view, everything to gain and nothing to lose.

There are quality starting OTs in the NFL with similar or worse measurables than Collins.
Bulaga - Same arm length, 1/2" taller, Collins quicker
Joe Thomas - Shorter Arms
Marcus Cannon - 3/4" longer arms, 1/2 taller but Collins is quicker (3-cone, shuttle, etc.).

I'm sure there are many others past and present.

You mean Chris Faulk? Okay...but then he remained a two year starter and he won best SEC offensive lineman award his senior year...not sure I get your point. Dak stepped in because of injury, too...what does that have to do with anything?

The NFL isn't college, night and day between them....the NFL is about measurable's and skill set, just because you played left tackle in college, doesn't make you a left tackle or right tackle in the pros, and just because you played corner in college, doesn't mean you can right corner in the pros..prime example of that is Zach Martin, played his entire career at ND as a left tackle but his measurable's and skill set makes him an all pro right guard in the pros.....Byron Jones, corner in college, safty in the pros......Offensive linemen aren't interchangeable, too many people on this forum think offensive linemen are interchangeable based on what a player did in college, THEY ARE NOT!!!!

And with regards to Dak do you really think he'd be as successful if he played for Cleveland last year, he's a product of the talent surrounding him, it wasn't all on his shoulders, and he played Qb in college, we're not talking about him now playing corner or defensive end, he's still playing QB based on his measurable's and skill set...

and the equivalence between asking a left tackle to play right tackle is like asking Dak to switch from throwing right handed to left handed...

Collins was debatably the best OL prospect in that ENTIRE draft.

A big reason for that was because they thought he could play tackle.

But, his upside is apparently much higher at G. Considering they've developed 3 All-Pro guys on the OL, I'll listen to 'em I guess.
There ya go
Logic
The guys who picked a developed some very good oline guys including Leary seem to think guard is his best position
We all have opinions and they mean nothing at all, but those who's opinions do matter sure seem to think guard is where he should be
