Collins has 33 1/4" arm length, 34" is considered the minimum for OT. Zack Martin had same issue with 32 7/8" arm length. They are guards in the Cowboys system.

Joe Thomas has been a top LT for a long time now and his arm length is 32-1/2".

The Packers RT Bryan Bulaga has 33-1/4" arms.

Jake Matthews 33-1/4". 6th overall picks, Falcons LT.

Although their arm length is not significantly different, Collins has a bigger overall wingspan than Martin (82" vs 77").

And then, of course, you have the who gives a bleep? What is this emotional connection to players? Why do people care about his future in another NFL city? The best players play. If the Cowboys decide to keep Collins at the expense of Leary (doesn't have to be that way since Collins is the best RT on the roster today) then I'll hope that Leary goes on to complete failure on another team. I hope his career ends in embarrassing fashion. Because it'll mean our front office made the right decision and another team isn't benefiting from one of our castoffs.

It's about the logo and laundry not Ronald Leary or any other player.

An informative post.

Leary will be get paid by a team even if he loses his starting job, theres enough film to prove hes a good player

Could see a team like miami pay him good money. Lord knows they need legit run blockers down there.

As I saw someone mention it some other time, this is the perfect learning opportunity for Collins because Romo is not back there. He messes up, the worst thing that can happen is Weeden gets a little banged up, and that's why we have Cassell. Let him get battle tested by fire

Well, if La'el wins the job, we can trade Leary to another team before the trading deadline November 3rd, 4:00 PM Eastern.

Why would Dallas do that? They can put a tender on him in the offseason. Even if Collins wins the job we need Leary for depth purposes.

If we are out of the playoffs, only way I see a trade happening.

There are plenty of "good" Right tackles with arms in that range. I think the average is like 33 inches for a RT.

You guys are crazy who are eager to get rid of Leary. I bet Dallas keeps him and puts Collins at Right Guard next year as others have said.

Leary will definitely be back when healthy. What's good is Collins will likely get at least these next 2 games of action as starting LG and can put that in the bank in preparation for next season.

I thought he was solid last week. Cox beat him a couple times but it didn't hurt us fortunately. He had a few mental busts as well - not knowing who to block. Very interested to see how he does today in a much less difficult environment and opponent.

Besides Leary not being 100%, Collins played well enough to start:

If the Cowboys play this well today vs. the Falcons with him at LG, let the speculation begin. Great problem to have.

talk about using stats that are suspect that is one of the most inaccurate. So many factors can change from series to series.
Collins did better then I thought he would up against a quality DT like Cox. So yes since we do not have to worry about Romo getting injured because of his mistakes keep starting him. Game experience may not be everything buts its well ahead of many other factors.

Oh, I don't want to get rid of Leary, just presenting a trade as a possibility. He's a good player, and we could get a good player in return. Right now we just don't know where we'll be in early November, but we do know a starting guard has considerable value, and we may need a good player at another position more than we need OL depth.

Personally, I would like to see La'el get a shot at right tackle and keep Leary where he is.
