Bloggingtheboys.com includes following para on Cowboys offer to Colombo but I agree with the statement that it does seem cheap but can understand Cowboys lingering concern re knee after only 1 year of play. But if I'm Colombo I'm ticked off at what can only be viewed by him as a low-ball offer and would jump at the chance to sign with another team IF it's anything better then the Cowboys. Of course that would depend if he gets a decent offer from another team.

Anyway, here's tidbit on Colombo:

From bloggingtheboys.com - You can now return to your regularly scheduled Marc Colombo vigil. By the way, Mick and other sources say the Cowboys have offered Colombo a two year deal at around $7 million. Maybe a little cheap, especially with the short amount of years, but Colombo has only had one year in the trenches and his knee is always an issue. Still, if the Cowboys added another year, they could probably lock him up as the interest seems to be lukewarm around the NFL. My guess is other teams are still a little suspect of his injury history. But Jerry might be holding out, hoping to get him to sign a "value" contract for the Cowboys, betting that he doesn't have too many options.

What are enties? Not undies, I hope...

Respectfully stating, who knows what Jones has offered Colombo. I am sure Jones didn't divulge offer parameters with Mick or others. The bottom line, Colombo hasn't signed with anyone else yet, despite the rumors he was being courted by the Broncos and the Jets.

So if Colombo is ticked off it must apply to those other two teams as well.
I don't think Jerry plays a holding out game. He proposed his best offer considering the injury and experience circumstances of Colombo and is waiting on it. Perhaps he will match or modestly exceed another team's offer, if Colombo truly wants to remain a Cowboy.

Who knows, but other teams appear to not wanting to give away the farm on Colombo either. A 2 year deal may be a win win for Colombo and the Cowboys. If he flourishes and physically holds up he will be more of a proven commodity. He is relatively young and this will only increase his marketability or garner an extension or new package from the Cowboys.

I would love for him to stay. I am beginning to buy into the prospect that we could have a dominating line. Here is to Colombo coming back into the fold.

It does seem a little low but who knows if it is the truth. I would offer the guy 3 years.

I wouldn't offer him much more than that, and I certainly wouldn't give him much guaranteed $ with his injury history. A guy in Colombo's position should realize what a gamble a l-t contract with him is. And since he's not visiting elsewhere, I'm guessing the market for him isn't too hot either.

yeah, it might be win/win.

but what's the big deal about a cap-friendly third year?

A two year deal might be the best for both sides. Colombo has to prove that his knee will contiue to hold up. And that he is a quality tackle. The seeming fact that he has not visited anyone indicates that he has not gotten any better offers- which kind of suprises me considering the relative paucity of decent tackles in FA this year.

Hmmm, let me get this right. A couple years ago Colombo was on a fast track to the REAL world because of a bum knee. A year later, he gets offered a 2-year deal worth $7mil. Hmmm, minimum wage v.s. $7mil, don't know, that's gotta be a tough choice.....

If it is 2 yrs at 7 Million, I'll bet it has some very nice bonuses.

Games Started, Pro Bowl, Percentage of plays There are ways toprotect Dallas but still give him some nice compensation if he remains healthy.

Mt guess is he's gotten several offers on the table, all of which our incentive laden to protect the teams interested, and he's trying to see which is better for him, while waiting for some team to get a little desperate.

<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/17">Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed free agent OT Luke Petitgout (Giants) to a three-year, $15.5 million contract. The deal includes a $3 million signing bonus. He is scheduled to earn roster bonuses of $1 million (2007), $1.75 million (2008) and $1.75 million (2009). Petitgout will earn base salaries of $2 million (2007), $2.5 million (2008) and $3.5 million (2009).

Petigout was hurt and he gets 15.5

True, but Petitgout's injury wasn't any where close to be as severe as Colombo's and Petitgout has quite frankly been a superior player over his career-- and I believe he was a LT too which would merit a little more "oomph" in the numbers.

I agree. Tampa also has a better ideal of what they are getting with Petitgout where as Colombo we have 1 season to go by.

Exactly right.

Heck I wouldn't feel bad if they offered Colombo 3 years for say 13 mil including a 4 mil signing bonus.

I would guess that they made the offer and agreed to let Colombo have some time to evaluate his other options. The longer this goes on, the more likely we'll have Colombo back.

And I don't think the years bother Colombo -- it is the $s. A three year deal isn't a commitment for three years at all.

Extemporaneous bombastification by the fringe element! 10 yard penalty!

Still second down!
