It's usually people that lack "size" that make this statement.

Does that mean that there aren't teams that would give him more than the Cowboys' initial offer? No, it doesn't. I think the most likely scenario is that he wants to stay in Dallas and the Cowboys know that and the two sides are trying to determine what discount his desire to stay in Dallas has on his market value. His agent may not have even contacted other teams, or other teams may know that he is interested solely in Dallas. None of this precludes the fact that other teams may be willing to pay him more than Dallas is.Doomsday101;1410712 said:And paying out more than need be is like bidding against yourself. I want Colombo but not at all cost. The Cowboys have a number in mind and right now I don't see any other teams knocking his door down. I hope he accepts the offer by the Cowboys but I don't see Dallas making some big offer for a guy with 1 season with the team who did a decent job.

Did you not read my post?5Stars;1410796 said:If what you say here is true, then why in the hell does he not sign with those teams that would offer him more money?
That's what he's after, right?
If I offer you 20 bucks because I like you, but, you want 30 bucks and CrazyCowboy will give that to you...what you going to take?
Are you going to play CC because you really want me to give you my 20 spot?
You don't make sense sometimes....

In the post, I proposed the possibility that Colombo has a preference to stay in Dallas, which means that he's willing to take an offer less than what another team would give. What would be holding up the signing is Dallas and Colombo negotiating the discount imposed on Colombo's market value by Colombo's desire to stay in Dallas. In other words, he'll accept less money to stay in Dallas, but they can't agree on how much less money he'll accept.5Stars;1410805 said:Yes...apparently I did not understand what you wrote...
If Columbo wants more money, and another team is willing give it to him, then what is the hold up?

Just speculation is all...
Some players are willing to take less to go where they want. Dielman took slightly less than market so he could stay in San Diego. If "market value" for Colombo is $9 million over two years, and he would accept $7 million over two years to stay in Dallas, then his desire to stay in Dallas afforded Dallas a 22% discount on his services.5Stars;1410828 said:Well, you lost me with all the "discount" stuff because if he wants to stay in Dallas why not take the 7 mill, two year deal? That's a pretty good deal, don't you think?
If Denver offered him 9 mil for two years...then go to Denver? Again, I don't buy, or ever have, believed in this "discount" thing. I offered the money, you want to stay here, sign the offer...simple as that!
But, I do understand what you are saying...and I sure hope that he stays with the Boyz.

Make sense?
That's good news, but where did you hear/read this?cowboyjoe;1410854 said:ok guys jjt, jacque taylor said that the agent for colombo seems to be the holdup, that he is asking way to high a price, and yes, colombo wants to come back to dallas.
jjt, seemed to think that a deal with colombo and the cowboys will be worked on soon, when the asking price colombos agent is asking for, jjt, seemed to think that from around 3-4 million a year would be settled on,
JustSayNotoTO;1411240 said:Thats really a slap in the face of a contract offer. Columbo has to be furious knowing that Davis just won the lottery and the Cowboys are choosing to penny pinch with a player that played very well for us.
Beast_from_East;1411319 said:How is it a slap in the face?
Columbo is a totally different situation than Davis, you cant compare the two.
Also, Davis was wined and dined by Washington and picked Dallas so he could be close to his family. He mentioned how great it will be for his Dad to watch him since he could not travel anymore.
I dont see anybody flying Columbo in. Could it be that Dallas is actually paying "market" for Columbo and he has to prove to the league that his knee is 100% before he can cash in?
JustSayNotoTO;1411323 said:Davis chose to be close to his family..right, I'll bet his agent told him to say that.
I dont see how the two are that different, instead of injury in Davis case it is average to poor play and he cashed in without proving anything 100%.
