I'd betcha that's exactly what he said about Rivera. You'd have to have your head elsewhere thinking that every player paid aint gonna get hurt.
In the end, if the fans aren't satisfied with results, your damn straight there ain't no reason to be an investor. We aren't talking a personal investment here. Yeah it's his money, but in the grand scheme of things it's our team. He knows that.
He knew there was a risk with Rivera and he took it. There's risk in every investment. That's the point. You don't just stop investing because a risk materializes.

I think it's funny that in other threads, I have been a strong supporter in the idea that our offense is not as good as last year's stats showed, and that I have been calling for improvement. I have been met with ridicule in those threads, where I was told that offense was not this team's problem...

...yet in this thread, I am being told that we can't possible win with this OL. It makes me LOL.
It's probably because you're talking to different people in both threads.

I'm guessing it was a real blast in the years preceding Parcells?

I'll make an AV bet that says we make less of a splash than we did last year. There will be no Samuel (especially now that he is tagged), no Steinbach, no Freeney, no big names. There is absolutely no reason to sign a name this offseason. We have a talented team, we should focus on role players and the draft.

This is not the year to be active in free agency. I know we need a guard to replace Rivera, but Justin Blaylock might be the answer to that problem.

Almost everybody has money to spend, but this years FA crop is very thin. I would imagine the even 2nd tier players are going to get offered top dollar. Anybody that is any good is going to get bidded up quickly.

I see very little reason not to sign a guy like Steinbach. He's young, isn't injury prone (although anyone can get hurt), isn't the type to coast after getting a big contract, and plays a position that isn't really dependent on scheme. If you can play guard, you can play guard. He isn't a product of the system like some guys can be.

The likelyhood of him coming to Dallas and flopping are slim to none. He would shore up RG for years to come and we certainly have the money to get him.

Kosier isn't bad at all, and we'll resign Gurode. With Steinbach, we'd have a very good interior OL and that would only help Romo improve in his second season starting. Plus, it would free up a draft choice to be used elsewhere.

Like I said in another thread: Look at it as investing in the OL and Romo's future. It would be worth the $, IMO.

My contentions that we won't be highly active in free agency aren't made because I think that Jerry doesn't want to spend money. He is more than willing to spend money.

The reason is that I feel the front office believes we don't NEED to go after anyone - they feel we already have all the talent needed to get to the big dance and win. It isn't that we are a player or two away - it's that we were a coach or two away.

The only big splash I hope we make is signing a young FA OG like Diehlman/Steinbech or the other guy OG (can't recall his name). So long as we re-sign Gurode (who was played out of position at OG for most of us career until he got legit chance in 06 preseason & finally made the most of it), Colombo, Crayton & Gramatica (also other of our own FAs who good), I will be happy. I really don't see us shelling out the big bucks for a DB or OLB. We got to get Burnett & Carpenter performing on the level needed & hopefully Phillips & Dat can do the same with James.

That will allow us to draft the BPA at a variety of positions including OL, CB (Glenn isn't getting any younger), NT (unless Phillips can bring in a vet FA NT to help spell Ferguson and/or Stanley develops), WR, etc. Really doubt we can afford to sign a high-priced pass rusher since other teams have more then enough money to drive up the price of the 1-2 legits players out there.

I still have a chance at being happy come FA time: Nate Clements - CB & Derrick Dockery - ORG.....

I'm with you and it seems to be the consensus must-have position. I just hope we're able to get a decent RG during FA with all the bucks that are going to be chasing after Steinbach, Dielman and Whoever Else.

I agree with Inman Roshi, I'm hoping that we find a way to bolster our edge pass rush/pressure. Whether through FA, which there may not be very many viable options for us from the FA ranks, or the draft - I hope we focus our efforts on increasing our pass rush pressure!

they can draft somebody in the middle rounds and replace Rivera...or sign a mid level free agent

you dont need to break the bank for guards

I've yet to understand the "Sign a bunch of high dollar FA's" take and desire. It's what leads you to sucking quicker than anything.

I personally think that the OL is the most important component of an offense. That being said, as bad as Rivera is, I don't think he is what is holding our offense back. I think it's time to start building our offense in the draft, kinda like the Eagles have over the last several years.

Man, I still will never forgiving them for leap frogging us a couple of years ago. Maybe I have just convinced myself because I want to believe it, but I truly believe we were going to take Shawn Andrews that year.
