Static Shock Movie is Still in Works, Writer Assures
By Abhishek Sharma | MovieWeb

It looks like we will still get a Static Shock movie set in the DC Extended Universe. After Warner Bros. merged with Discovery, the new management shook up the DC Films division by canceling several projects, including Batgirl, and changing the release schedule. And as the cancelation took effect, there were concerns about the status of other in-development projects at DC Films, including Static Shock. However, Static Shock writer Nikolas Draper-Ivey has positively updated the film’s status. Due to several speculations about the film, the creator took to Twitter and urged fans to be patient while discarding any article or new piece about Static Shock’s cancelation.

Virgil Hawkins a.k.a. the Dakotaverse's Static Shock, although I wished they would only call him Static from his origin 20 years ago.

Comic book stories are finding a new home at WEBTOON
By KT Devera | The Daily Aztec
September 30, 2022

<snip>

Unlike other comic reading platforms such as DC Comics Infinite, Marvel Unlimited or Comixology, this South Korean digital platform features original vertical-scrolling content from creators all over the world. Since its founding in 2004 and its U.S. debut in 2014, WEBTOON has become a global phenomenon, averaging over 82 million monthly active users. They even have joint projects with the big two comic publishers, DC Comics and Marvel Comics.

Big corporations are known to collaborate with other brands through strategic advertising to reach audiences that they normally may not have. Just a little over a year ago on Sep. 8, 2021, the first WEBTOON episode of “Batman: Wayne Family Adventures” was released as DC’s first title on the distributing site.

Over the course of 51 episodes written by CRC Payne and art done by StarBite aka Rhett Bloom, DC has found a lot of success. As of this publication date, 56.5 million users viewed the series and 1.1 million of them have subscribed. They also have an overall rating of 9.78 out of 10 stars. “Batman: Wayne Family Adventures’” subscriber count had even managed to surpass the monthly sales of “Batman, Detective Comics” and “Batman: Urban Legends.”

WEBTOON accounts are free for readers. This broadens access for fans who may not have the ability to read comics due to the paywalls of other services. Being digital also allows for translations to be provided easier for global readers to connect them through their various backgrounds.

Here’s Why DC Animated Shows Are Consistently So Good
By Ross Lombardo | MovieWeb
September 30, 2022

DC-Animated-Shows.jpeg

<snip>

If you look at the DC characters who get movies and TV shows, you can see how they offer very different characters to watch. Shows like Young Justice and Teen Titans offer the perspective of plucky teenage characters. Justice League Dark and the John Constantine-focused movies are housed in the darker side of the magic in the DC universe. You have a raunchy comedic satire of superheroes and supervillains in the HBO Max series Harley Quinn. All of these shows offer very different things and very different characters.

The MCU has begun to fill out its live action TV roster in a similar way, adding more and more characters who offer different perspectives on the larger universe. The DCAU is similarly broad, even in its team-up series. The two Justice League shows and Young Justice are often an anthology of different superheroes who all have distinct identities despite residing in the same universe. The universe doesn't shy away from things that seem too goofy, instead embracing them. Kite Man is an example in Harley Quinn, but this has been true from the beginning. In contrast with the movies, which generally give us a very serious and stark take on the Joker, Batman: The Animated Series embraced his more goofy side while making an effective manic and sinister villain. Mark Hamill's Joker is iconic to this day, while the actor still reprises the role occasionally based on his Batman: The Animated Series success.

Different Takes on Famous Characters

The DCAU has several distinct Batman TV shows. First was Batman: The Animated Series, which portrayed Batman in a noir city with gangsters and supervillains. Then, there was The Batman, which showed Batman as a younger Bruce Wayne in a more modern city in the early-2000s. Next, there was Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which showed a Batman that was more consistent to 1960s Adam West incarnation. Even in other shows, we see different takes on the same character. Harley Quinn, for example, pokes fun at Batman and exposes some of what makes him more ridiculous and funny. Harley Quinn herself is a different take on the character in the show, as in Batman: The Animated Series she was firmly a sidekick of the Joker, but the Harley Quinn show has done a lot to explore Harley as her own independent person, outside the Joker's shadow. Poison Ivy, in the same two shows, goes from being a typical femme fatal to a more well-rounded, antisocial, and snarky character.

Marvel’s ‘Armor Wars’ Starring Don Cheadle Targets The Big Screen
By Mark Hughes | Forbes
September 30, 2022

The Armor Wars are escalating and Marvel Studios is aiming for a bigger target. Don Cheadle’s MCU superhero series is transforming from Disney+ streaming series to big screen feature film, as reported exclusively by Borys Kit via The Hollywood Reporter.

Armor Wars will enter production in 2023 with a script penned by Yassir Lester. With star and Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes aka War Machine, the series will also feature Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, whom we first met in Ant-Man and the Wasp. as a black-market dealer in advanced technologies.

Not much is known yet about the story details for Armor Wars, but the film is inspired by a comic book storyline by David Michelinie, Bob Layton, and Mark Bright about Tony Stark’s (aka Iron Man’s) armored tech being obtained by villains, and Rhodes/War Machine determining to put a stop to it.

The death of Tony Stark and how Rhodes processes that loss and moves on, and how he continues to cope with and overcome the paralysis he suffered in the film Captain America: Civil War, will be important aspects of the character’s arc.

Very disappointed to hear this, was really looking forward to it. :(

‘Grendel’ Series Not Going Forward At Netflix, Could Be Shopped Elsewhere
Netflix will not be going forward with Grendel, a series based on the masked vigilante from Matt Wagner’s popular, award-winning Dark Horse comic book series, which had an eight-episode order.
The decision was made after Grendel had done the bulk of its filming but the series was not finished, so there is currently a partial eight-episode season in the can.

OK… I recognize Captain Marvel and her co-pilot. I recognize the teenager from the new TV series. Who is the 4th lady?
That's the director The Marvels, Nia DaCosta. She also directed the 2021 horror movie reboot Candyman. Although it is a direct sequel to the 1992 film, to me it still felt like a reboot.
I believe that's the Wakandan Captain of the Guard (or whatever her title is), but with hair.
The leader of the Dora Milaje is Okoye played by Danai Gurira. With hair you may recognize her as Michonne from The Walking Dead TV show. She's memorable for using a katana.

Well I feel stupid. Just noticed it says "The Cast and Director of..."

And I never made it past the first 2 episodes of The Walking Dead. I just find the whole concept of zombies idiotic. Maybe if they were being magically controlled by someone, I could suspend my disbelief, but other than that, no.

I never got into The Walking Dead television show either. I became familiar with her character from the 2016 video game The Walking Dead: Michonne. The concept of zombies is humorous to me. :D

I was a devoted TWD fan until they ran off Rick. Then I dropped the series like a hot rock.

Some co-workers told me Andrew Lincoln had returned to the show but I was done. For me, they should have thrown the U.S. Mint at him to keep him. Rick lost his <expletive> at least twice, went through emotional trauma no human being should survive and still kept it together to lead people.

It is unfair and there are those who always disagree but he was the show for me. I lost all interest when Rick left. And I very rarely return to a series or movie franchise after growing numb to it.

From what I know, that was Andrew Lincoln’s decision to leave. He was tired of being away from his family and home country for so long.
