Marvel Puts a Star Wars Twist on Death Note

By Kofi Outlaw | ComicBook.com
September 12, 2024

The issue of Marvel's Star Wars comic series tells a dark sci-fi story, revealing how Luke Skywalker, Leia and their allies found a way to kill Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious, only to end up having to weigh choices of life and death that are totally on par with the manga/anime series Death Note. In fact, Star Wars #50 feels less like a Star Wars movie and more like an episode of Death Note. Read on for SPOILERS if you don't believe it... Read more

Just got Disney+ back. Took a break to wait for some new content. Very disappointed. Echo, Agatha, Secret Invasion, X-men 97 and What If episodes about Nebula? Really? An entire fictional universe and those are the most exciting things you could bring out? At least I still get to watch Loki season two. I really enjoyed the first one.

You were disappointed with X-Men '97? Agatha All Along's first episode was mostly meh, probably because it was purposefully following WandaVision's theme seen during its first couple of episodes. And weakly at that. The second episode was much better and what I was expecting though.

So far, I like Agatha All Along's first two episodes much, much more than the first two episodes of Wandavision.

The Penguin episode 1: :starspin::starspin::starspin::starspin::starspin:/5

That is how you made a comic book adaptation. It transitions seamlessly from The Batman.

And Colin Farrell? He will win multiple cable and Emmy awards for the role. Book it.

Not sure if anyone recognizes the young actor who is playing his lieutenant but he played on the Hulu/Marvel series Runaways. Glad he is getting another shot at the genre since that series crapped out pretty quickly.

I’m curious to see if this team is morphed into Thunderbolt Ross’ new (Dark) Avengers team.

I also can’t wait to see what they do with The Sentry. It looks like they’re forgoing his convoluted origin story and just having him be a new Super Soldier creation.
Good. I always thought his origin story was so stupid.

I thought it was quite original, but convoluted at the same time.

I liked how he was a ‘forgotten’ golden age hero who had to go away in order to save the world. The ultimate sacrifice.

Marvel And DC Lose Historic Trial
By Chris Snellgrove | Giant Freakin Robot
September 30, 2024

Normally, DC and Marvel are bitter rivals, vying for audiences hungry for colorful heroes and despicable villains battling it out for supremacy. Recently, though, these two comic giants were on the same side in a historic legal battle…one they both managed to lose. Previously, the two industry titans had a joint trademark on the term “super hero,” but after a recent challenge and trial, they lost the trademark and the term may be used by other creators... Good. Imagine everyone trying to remember who's a superhero and who's a whatever else a particular franchise would label their specific heroes?
Obviously, both companies knew it was a lost cause. Lawyers do not allow cases to lapse that are filed with the court, especially not by two separate sets of legal departments, but both Marvel and DC legal teams did in this instance.

My only concern is how much more watered down the phrase will become. It loses much of its original meaning when there are publishers wanting the term interpretated for 'Super Babies. That's right. Super. Babies. I would not think anyone would want 'superhero' applied to their comedic infants or toddler characters but... yeah. lol.

Yes, but it's ridiculous to be able to control an entire genre by trademarking two common words together like that. Since they did it jointly, that's a can of worms for collusion and Oligopoly (or duopoly) lawsuits. I can see combined words together like "Superhero" to be trademarked. But not "Super Hero." It's not like everyone and their mother didn't use the term to describe heroes with powers anyway, just not the creators because they were afraid of a lawsuit by the big two companies in the market.

Not sure if anyone will agree but I see similarities in the visuals between The Penguin outro scene and Jessica Jones intro scene. I made a side-by-side comparison below minus the audio tracks:

The series and storylines are both completely different and the conceptualization for the intro and outro reflect their individual themes. Even so, The Penguin outro reminds me so much of Jessica Jones intro and vice versa.

Note: Both videos are not equal length, so I cropped Penguin's to match the total run time of Jessica's. The former starts about a half minute into its runtime and the latter starts out with a darken beginning for the first few seconds--just in case someone wonders, "Why does Jessica's start late?" :muttley:

PS: I thought the intermixed audios are similar also but did not what to freak anyone out listening to both playing at the same time.
