Maybe. It looks better than the Superman movie, at least
Yeah it did. LOL. Honestly, reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy more than anything. Surprised it wasn't directed by Gunn, because it sure does have that GoG feel from the space effects to the music track to the costumes. Only saw that one glimpse of Lobo played by Jason Mamoa. Looks cool!

James Gunn does not direct, but he will produce the film. Probably will do so for most or all of the new DCU. The franchise will follow his vision, which is partially why this trailer looks somewhat like his Guardians of the Galaxy films.

The other part is that it is an adaptation of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. That was Gunn's plan that I remembered hearing three years ago. I could not find his interview from back then, but did find this quote (link):

"In our story, we have Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents, while Kara was on Krypton.
"She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and she lived there for the first fourteen years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die.
"So, she’s a much harsher and more <expletive> up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far."
Audiences got a hint of this newly adapted version of Kara in Superman. After seeing Milly Alcock cameo (I do not believe that's spoiler worthy now), my main concern was how committed Gunn would still be to the script's adaptation for this movie. The book's storyline was (of course) more off-earth, space-based and Gunn's interpretation of that aspect is clear as day in his GOTG movies. Gritty. Very interconnected. And chock full of extra-terrestrial personalities.

It's very early, but the trailer put some of my concerns to rest. There will be undeniable GOTG traits, but the central characters appear to mirror what was read in the book. Kal-El's cousin and story will be extremely messy, lol.

By that trailer? Definitely looks like a bomb in the making. Gunn has certainly shown he's got just one trick in his bag and keeps using it.
First, I was shocked that this character would be among the first films of the James Gunn era.

I expected that he would take longer to establish himself and a track record before taking this risk.

Then I saw his version of the character in Superman and immediately didn’t like it.

And this trailer only promises more of the same.

I’m predicting when the Warner Bros sale is finalized, the new ownership will quickly move on from the Gunn era.

I enjoyed the Superman movie, but didn't like the version of Supergirl in it. The trailer reminds me of Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man 2 mixed with Guardians of the Galaxy. What do I mean by that? Too much preview for upcoming other movies and world-building for that, too little focus on the character and development. Don't get me wrong, it's just one preview and I know that, but I get those vibes from it and it looks heavily like GotG.

I think Gunn and Warner Bros certainly hope that it reminds people of Guardians.

Similarities with those films are their best chance at interest and potential profit.

I’ll go on record that this looks like a BOMB in the making.

Zero interest in this premise or film.

Halfway through I could of guessed this was Guardians of the Galaxy #4 but with a female lead
Same setting for good parts of it.

Not sure I feel about it. Like I've already seen the movie lol.

Saw the mini trailer this evening (just about 30 seconds to a minute long) of a father looking at and holding his baby, followed by a black screen with the words:

Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday December 26, 2026.

The countdown has officially begun.

I’ve heard that there will be four of those mini trailers. A new one each week. (Like the old Star Wars glasses at Burger King!)

James Gunn is going to do the same thing to the DC Universe that Zack Snyder did, just in his own style. They need to get a clue like Marvel and put a producer/screenwriter ONLY in charge like Kevin Feige. The directors in charge make the entire universe to their style of storytelling, and really it should be more like Marvel with different tastes. I would have left Zack Snyder over the Superman properties - Man of Steel wasn't bad at all, it's just all the quick merging of heroes that derailed the franchise. And it'a s shame that Man of Steel gets worse reviews than Gunn's Superman because it was a much better version. I would have kept Reeves in his true crime detective Batman universe with Penguin show and others. Gunn can stay with Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, Creature Commandos and all the freaky stuff he excels at. Keep the same women making Wonder Woman, etc....

I disagree I'd rather Zack Snyder never direct another comic movie ever again. Man of Steel gets bad reviews for a reason. It's not a Superman movie.

I think it was one of the best Superman movies.
Totally cool to have that opinion a lot of people agree with you. I love Henry Cavill. I just realized my post came off aggressive and gatekeeping and that wasn't really my intention haha. I just really don't like Zack as a director or producer.

I will say, the fight scenes were a bit chaotic, but that's about what they probably would be, with a bunch of Kryptonians fighting...I guess.

I enjoyed it a lot too and think he's the best guy to play the role since Christopher Reeve. The only thing I didn't like was the origin story with "they're not ready" and letting his old man die by a tornado. There was a nerd riot about him killing Zod at the end, but I thought that was a lot more in character than just standing by and watching his old man get swept away all because people won't accept a superman? That's also my favorite Lois Lane since Margot Kidder in the originals. Laurence Fishburne as the Editor was a great choice. And Michael Shannon was a terrific casting for Zod. Still don't understand why critic reviews are so low for that movie.

I love Henry Cavill and really appreciated his hard work and commitment to the role.

He deserved better than he got playing Superman.

Yeah, he did, just like Christian Bale as Batman, got ripped for the role. Speaking of Bale, everyone forgets that the original concept for Man of Steel came from Bale's director, Christopher Nolan. He came up with the concept of the "darker" Superman in an IMAX setting, similar to the treatment he gave Batman. Studio even tried to get Nolan to direct, but he was the one who recommended Zack Snyder. Just like they tried to get Bale to play Batman in Superman vs. Batman which I still will never understand why he turned down the role if he's going to end up playing 'B Villains' in the Thor sequels. Batman vs Superman would have been better with Bale in the role for continuity (even though I thought Ben Affleck did decent job) and less attempt to bring it all together so fast. And the one casting decision that to me was the worst of all, Jesse what's-his-name as Lex Luthor. Still think that was a horrible decision. And will never forgive them for teasing me with Deathstroke in the end but never doing anything about it.

I’ll always feel that Zack Snyder was a bad choice. And the fact that the DCEU folded confirms it.

It would have been great if they had managed to get Nolan to direct, as he’s a far better filmmaker than Snyder.

And unlike Snyder, Nolan doesn’t just do ‘dark’ for dark’s sake. His films have a reason for it

I’ve often wondered why Bale refused to come back. Maybe Nolan not directing was his reasoning as well?

Nolan was a factor and I believe I read he didn't want to keep going with the role, but again, no Batman but you'll play the cheesy God Killer in Thor 4? Okay.

I wonder how much the prep that you gave Cavill credit for had a role too. By the third Batman film, he was more muscle suit than a chiseled Batman. I would think some of these guys who weren't into that before the role, don't always look forward to the mass protein and muscle gain for these roles.
