But would any of us be too upset if he was suspended? <evil grin>

I would like to see Portis fight a pack of pit bulls. :p:

On Tuesday, Samuels apologized for his behavior.

"We were wrong for joking about the situation," Samuels said. "It's very serious. We don't agree with dog fighting."

THAT'S what Portis should have said when he tried to backtrack from his stupidity... and then, he should have shut his ignorant mouth...

I'm glad that Samuels realizes what they did was wrong, and I respect that he stood up and said so in such unequivocal fashion...

If I was Chris Samuels I wouldn't apologize. Portis comments would've made anyone laugh, I'm pretty sure he didn't find dog fighting funny

I agree that Samuels came off as if he was sittin' over the saying "I can't BELIEVE what this fool is saying"... but because some people interpreted his laughter as an endorsement of what Portis said, it was wise of him to clear the air...

If folks were thinking that I was supportive of dog fighting, erroneously, I'd sure wanna make sure to set the record straight...

I wonder how many that are up in arms about this dogfighting thing hunt, fish, eat veal or any other of a myriad of human activities that are unnecessarily cruel to animals.

Anything less than a perfect shot or a baby cow in a box until it dies is no less cruel than to coerce dogs into fighting.

Personally i make it easy and just say animals < man in every way shape and form but thats just me.

So, you see nothing wrong with dogfighting??

It's a very small leap from abusing animals to abusing people... that has been well documented...

Im just saying that there is nothing more wrong with dogfighting than there is with the veal and fur trade for example.

Its wrong to cheat on your significant other and its wrong to get too drunk. i put it into the bad but not criminal category.

Fuzzy my man never was veal or fur meant to be a spectacle fur the pure satisfaction of blood lust... it may be only a slight distinction but in my mind it is that distinction that makes the difference

wrath or gluttony or vanity?

Sorry all are for the purposes of human pleasure. But i dont see how getting off to watching dogs fight is any worse than putting an infant cow in a box for a few months so its is more tender than tenderloin or putting a mink in a box so your old lady can look cool.

I am not saying that both are not bad I am just saying i dont find one worse than the other.

And why noone talks about Elam the rapist is beyond me.

but the veal and fur were used once as a means for survival... or can still be used for so...

dog fighting serves no purpose other than blood lust...

Elam the rapist has paid his debt to society...No?

Putting a mink or a calf in a box has never been a need for survival. Its a luxury at the expense of the animal.

There is a difference between killing an animal so you can eat it or wear it and torturing an animal so it tastes or looks better. I could just as easily say that training a dog to be aggresive can be a form of self defense.

As for Elam, its really more of me making a point. Elam got here last year and noone has cared that he is a convicted sex offender but everyone freaks out because Vick may have facilitated dog fighting or Jones punched a stripper. Its a disgusting hypocrisy.

The team should have come out with the truth: "Clinton Portis is an idiot and his remarks should in no way be connected with the Washington Commanders organization. We deplore dog fighting and do not support it in any way. We also deplore Mr. Portis' remarks and attitude towards it and will deal with him internally."

But of course no team is going to throw one of their star players to the wolves like that so they make a blanket apology which is completely meaningless.

The league should have released a similiar statement as well.

In Portis' interview he stated that if Vick wanted to fight dogs then he should do it. In his apology he said that he did not condone dog fighting. How many really believe his apology was sincere since it contradicted everything he said in the interview?

These apologies mean nothing. The team should give him a stern reprimand and let it go. If Portis were to be involved then action should be taken. It is really difficult to discipline anyone for being stupid.

Forced apologies. Id have rather he just said nothing else about the incident. The comments he made show his stance on the subject. Its so obvious the organization is making him apologize.
