not smart Danny, you were going to need that 3rd when you to try to trade your whole draft to move up and take Tim Tebow.

Was this a Matt Millen souting report?

This article (according to PFW) says anywhere between 2 and 4:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/jarmon-and-the-supplemental-dr.html

This is a spot-on assessment:

Also could be a solid base end in a 4-3. Will go no worse than fourth, but [my] guess is third, with Skins potentially looking at him in [the second round] given how they undervalue draft picks and feel a sense of urgency to win and support [the] Haynesworth signing."

Obviously it will all come down to what the Commanders coaches thought at the workout. Jarmon "definitely fits [the] Greg Blache defense," Nawrocki wrote, so we'll see if the Commanders take him and if so, at what point.

Perhaps they are looking to the future when Andre Carter retires in the not-too-far future. And he provides young depth. Wynn and Daniels will be gone soon, too.

Jarmon likely isn't a replacement for Carter because he's probably not going to be a dynamic pass rusher. That's why I wouldn't have used a third-round pick on him. He doesn't have much burst to succeed as a pass rusher.

But since another team was set to take him at the top of the fourth, then I guess it's a good thing Washington offered it's third if they really wanted him. I could see him turning into a solid role player, but it's doubtful he'll ever be what you want as a pass rusher at that position.

As I said before, the LDE role is s stop-the-run-first, pass-rush-second role. Jarmon fits that bill.

The speculation is that when Carter retires, Orakpo will take his spot on the right side (the pass rush side), and Jarmon will take Orakpo's spot on the left.

I'm not surprised by this pick. The Commanders were clearly excited about him from the get go. I thought he'd go in the 4th round but they probably felt if they used a 4th they would lose out on him. A 3rd is a very safe gamble on a kid with a good ceiling for potential. I also think he fits a 4-3 DE better than a 3-4 DE and definitely better than a 3-4 OLB, so it wasn't like I was hoping we'd get him anyway.

I don't really know anything about him, but I'm glad that we're finally addressing at least one of our lines in the draft.

ExtremeHomers is very excited by this move.

Was there ever a move they weren't excited about right after it happens?

I admit that the site which you call ExtremeHomers is annoying and has some messed up folks. But it is not like this site doesn't have some extreme homers cut from the same mold.

I have no idea WHAT you are talking about.

But just wait until we get the 4th and Long winner. He is going to be so awesome! No one will be able to stop him. While all these other guys have been attending OTA's and working with the coaching staff this guy has been battling 11 other "warriors" and is training with Michael "fricken" Irviin.

Superbowl!

That post is full of fail.

First, he was projected as high as the second round, but PFW stated he was a likely 3rd round candidate.

Second, he played for three full seasons before being ruled ineligible for the 2009 season.

He also wasn't a "drug user" but rather was sanctioned for using a diuretic supplement.

True! I watched several of Kentucky's games over the last couple of years and he's a pretty good player. He was very emotional when he was kicked out of the program. Very likeable kid.

ESPN: Scouts Inc.: Evaluating DE Jeremy Jarmon

Evaluating DE Jeremy Jarmon

Instincts, off-the-field issues are concerns

DE Jeremy Jarmon

Scouts Inc. offers its evaluation of former Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon, who was taken in the 2009 supplemental draft by the Washington Commanders. Category grades are on a 1-5 scale, with 1 being the highest.

2005: Redshirted; 2006: (13/6) 30 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 4 sacks, 4 PBU, 1 FF, 1 FR; 2007: (13/13) 62 tackles, 13.5 TFL, 9 sacks, 2 PBU, 2 FF, 1 FR, Second-Team All-SEC; 2008: (12/10) 38 tackles, 10 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 6 PBU, 2 FF, Honorable Mention All-SEC

H-W-S ratio 2 Prototypical height, bulk and top-end speed.

Durability 4 2008: Tears knee cartilage during Vanderbilt game, undergoes arthroscopic surgery and misses Tennessee game. 2005: Sustains shoulder injury during the summer and doesn't practice until midway though the season.

Intangibles 4 Ruled ineligible for 2009 season after testing positive for a banned substance. Was UK's Co-Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2007. Effort appears inconsistent on film.

Pass-rush skills 2 Explosive first step and should be able to turn the corner working against most NFL right tackles. Strong bull-rusher who flashes an effective push-pull move but didn't show on film the ability to set tackles up to the outside and then redirect inside.

Athleticism/versatility 2 Above-average lateral mobility for his size and looks fluid running line stunts. Agile and comfortable enough in space to move to outside linebacker in a base 3-4 scheme. Stout enough to develop into an effective power end for a base 4-3 team and effective 5-technique for a base 3-4 team.

Versus the run 3 Does an adequate job of staying low and anchoring when teams run at him. Can stack and shed tight ends/tackles. Flashes the ability to shed blocks in time to make plays at the line of scrimmage but is inconsistent in this area. Takes adequate pursuit angles and generally does a good job of closing down cutback lanes but lacks ideal range.

Instincts/competitiveness 4 Can rush too far upfield or collapse inside prematurely, making him vulnerable to misdirection, but his biggest flaw is an inconsistent motor. Appears to take plays off and can gear down when teams run away from him. Flashes a mean streak and plays with emotion at other times. Does an excellent job of getting his hands up when he sees the quarterback start a throwing motion. Does an adequate job of locating the ball carrier.

Overall From a purely physical standpoint Jarmon is capable of making an impact in the NFL. He could have played his way into being a first-day pick in the 2010 draft, but questionable instincts and recent off-the-field issues raise significant concerns for us.
