no..some guys are hybrid pass rushing DE in a 4-3 or an OLB in a 3-4.
Think DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Dwight Freeney, Julius Peppers, Jared Allen, Shawne Merriman, etc.

some guys would be a DE in either scheme .
Think Mario Williams, Phillip Daniels, Richard Seymour, Dewayne White, or old school guys like Bruce Smith and Too Tall Jones.

I don't think this was that bad of a move considering he could have been an even higher pick next year.

*shrugs* I figured either the Skins or Raiders would be the team to spend a pick on this kid. This isn't a surprise to me.

What the heck does that mean? Aren't you really just one or the other? Can he play FS, too?

It would appear to me that he has the size to handle the duties of DE in the 3-4, but the speed to add a bit of a pass rush in a 4-3.

Essentially the Commanders used their 3rd round pick a year early, on a position of need, where a youth infusion is badly needed.

Good pick from my perspective in the peanut gallery

Figuring ALL draft picks are based off POTENTIAL to be great....how is this NOT a good move?

he's big, fast and smart. If he stays healthy and plays to potential the sky is the limit for nearly ANY player in the nfl.....

Commanders had to beat Lions to Jarmon
Thursday, July 16, 2009 | Print Entry

The Washington Commanders were wise to invest a third-round choice to acquire Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon. According to a source, five teams put in fourth-round claims for the 278-pound defensive end. Had the Commanders not used their third, he probably would have gone to the Detroit Lions at the top of the fourth round. The Commanders have five remaining draft choices in the 2010 draft. They are now without third- and sixth-round picks.

By the way, Jarmon, the only player selected in Thursday's supplemental draft, is only the fourth supplemental choice on an active roster this year. The Chargers have two -- defensive tackle Jamal Williams and safety Paul Oliver -- and the Ravens have one -- left tackle Jared Gaither. Jarmon is the first supplemental pick selected since 2007.

The reason the Commanders needed to look for a young defensive end is that they have too much age at the left end spot of their defensive line: Phillip Daniels is 36, and Renaldo Wynn is 34. The Commanders can develop Jarmon over the next year to take over the starting job and maybe help out a defensive tackle on passing downs. The Commanders figured that free-agent market for defensive ends next year would be too thin to find help.

Now that Jarmon is gone, we'll see what the Lions and Bucs do in the defensive-line market. The Lions have been scrambling for a backup defensive tackle. They've failed to recruit veteran John Thornton. They could go after Kevin Carter, who remains in contact with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

ExtremeHomers is very excited by this move.

The Foreskins could've picked a steaming goat turd in the 1st round and the idiots on ExtremeForeskins would've been excited. Had we picked Jarmon with a third round pick, they would've all called Jerry an idiot. Just how they are. All that having been said, I think Jarmon will be a pretty damn good player. I've watched him his entire career.

I admit that the site which you call ExtremeHomers is annoying and has some messed up folks. But it is not like this site doesn't have some extreme homers cut from the same mold.

True, but this site is different from ExtremeForeskins in two very important ways. First, almost ALL of the idiots on that site take homerism to a never-before-seen level. Secondly, that site has two of the biggest ****** bag homers in the history of sports: namely TR1 and his girlfriend Bubba.
