Pretty weak. D Line should have been the first priority. 2 more WR's and a pass catching TE ? The defense is getting old and thin in spots.

The one pick I liked is Colt. Zorn can groom HIS guy. Campbell is not the QB for a Zorn offense.

Its funny that everyone believes that DL should have been a top priority. I was in the mindset that an OT/OG should be the top of needs, and then a WR, then DBs, then a little DL help. My guess is that there will be some DL relief in the near future.

Should have addressed the O and D lines as a priority IMO.

However I will not be as mean as my other cowboys brethren as I know Zorn will need WRs for the WCO he is going to try and install and most the current WRs were not exactly WCO WRs.

You will also find that many here will bash the TE selection you guys took, while many have warmed up to the idea of having another pass catching threat in the redzone for our own team.

So...I am not as down on the first day of your draft as many would be as I see some reasoning behind it even if their evaluations of WRs over the years has been questionable at best.

the wide receivers they drafted are good but are wasted with jc as quaterback.. sooner or later the Commanders need to cut their losses and get a better qb

I certainly think your guys did a much better job than ours in separating ATL from those 2nd rnd picks. This is where the value was for WR and you guys got it, but Kelly may have bad knees already.

A club that knows what it's doing can find good linemen in the later rounds. I don't know a lot of these players, but I don't see any reason to discount them at this point.

I really wonder why Zorn was brought in to develop a WCO when Campbell is not a WCO QB. I thought he was progressing nicely when he got hurt and I think it is a mistake to throw all that away and start over, especially when you make the POs last year...

weak draft for WR and you took two--but it will be interesting to see how Zorn (a quality guy) does with his first draft

This looks like a boom or bust draft...Thomas, Davis & Kelly all have red flags

whether it is for injury concerns(Kelly) or being one year wonders (Thomas)

with the weakness of the Commanders along both lines....the skins had a chance to grab some help along the lines but passed on the prudent picks to take risky picks...

I like Thomas and Kelly and think your team did need some help at that position.

I'm not sure they are ever going to be anything more than good NFL receivers, though. They were good value picks none the less.

Tryon has a chance to be a very good pick for the value. The rest I'm not so sure about, but you never know.

:welcome: to The Zone.

I didn't hate your Draft but I was kind of shocked at it. First of all I think you got good value by trading down and still getting Devin Thomas.

I probably would have gone Calais Campbell over Fred Davis only because you guys have good TEs. I'm a Pac 10 guy though and can't deny Davis is a solid choice.

I definitely would have taken Limas Sweed over Malcolm Kelly. In fact my biggest criticism of Dallas' draft is I think we should have traded up to get Sweed. I like the TE we ended up getting, but think we might regret not moving up for him. It isn't that I think Kelly is bad. Just think Sweed will be better.

I really think you got a steal in Rhinehart.

Colt Brennan was worth the risk for a WCO team, which I expect Zorn to install.

It was interesting to me that you focused on WR because for the last several years I've been telling Skins fans you need bigger WRs. At least one. Still in a Draft where WRs fell so far taking 2 so early was an eye opener. There was a run on WRs happening so I understand it in part.

I gave you a B.

I wish I could hate it, but I don't. I do think that the Skins have a big problem in the trenches, though. You got the best receiver in a group of average receivers... the link you gave compares him to Koren Robinson, for whatever that is worth. Good TE in the mold of your own Cooley... this one and the Kelly picks are IMO luxury picks, but the Skins have enough needs to where I am not sure they have that luxury.

How many of these picks do you think will make the roster?

Is Moore supposed to replace Taylor?

In terms of value in the draft, you got the Wr's at the point of the draft where they should have gone. As a result, you have quite a stable of guys wanting the ball. Like some others, I was wondering why you didn't take a guy like Calais at DE. Maybe the Commanders brass felt that the value wasn't there.

Where the Commanders lack depth and substance is across both Offensive and Defensive lines. I don't know how much gas is in the tank for some of those guys. Getting Rhinehart was good, but I'm not as excited about Colt Brennan as some of the others. The good news is that you didn't spend a high pick on him, so if he doesn't pan out, no big deal.

In summary, good draft for value, maybe not so great in terms of addressing need.

WR was a need for the Skins. I think they went a little far using all their early picks on pass catchers.

I love Malcolm Kelly, but the fact that he has a degenerative knee issues is a huge cause for concern. They say his knee may not even be able to make it through a full training camp and it was the reason he ran something like a 4.7 or 4.8 40s or didn't run at all. It's why he went from a early/mid first round pick late first day pick.

I don't rate the Commander's draft very high and it has nothing to do with them being drafted by the Commanders. I felt the Commanders had needs all over the team, but it seemed that the focus were on pass catchers.

I wasn't high on Kelly leading up to the draft because I don't think he will get separation in the NFL. He isn't sudden in his cuts and doesn't get off the line very fast, so DBs will be able to make breaks on the ball or knock it away. He might be a weapon in the Redzone because he has great hands and height, but that either leaves him open to big hits over the middle or non-forceouts on the sidelines.

Devin Thomas had all of 6 receptions until his only year outside of JuCo. I think it will take him longer to get acclimated to the NFL, but he may turn into a good pro a few years down the line.

Fred Davis has great hands much like Kelly, but also like Kelly he might be better off being an H-Back. He just doesn't do a good job blocking on the line, isn't sudden in his cuts and doesn't get off the line very well.

All in all, your first three picks were used on a project at WR and two pass catching/non blocking H-Backs. Out of the three, I like Davis the best.

Now had you guys drafted Hardy and some other need positions, I would have given you a higher grade.

Good work picking up those extra 2nd round picks; had hoped we could do that if we secured a CB with our 22nd pick. Anyway, I envy the 2 WRs you drafted in 2nd round; good value. Wish we could have gotten one of them or Sweed. Am OK with the Davis pick even though you got Cooley--cause we did the same thing drafting Bennett even though we got Witten. Rinehart is a pretty good pick; helps you get younger along the OL. Don't know enough about rest of the guys. Am surprised you didn't draft some defensive players higher.

I like the trade down from the first to pick up two second round picks. Devin Thomas was a nice selection at a need position. Fred Davis will be a good TE. I can't really criticize taking a TE until I know how many two-TE sets Zorn will run. I'm not high on Malcolm Kelly. I don't know if he can get seperation in the NFL. He's a very risky pick. Chad Reinhart was a good selection at a need position. I also like the Colt Brennan pick. He was a steal in the 6th round and may be better Campbell in a WCO.

I thought Thomas was great value. Davis should be a good player for you as well.

I am not sold on Kelly (his knee scares me)

And I thought Brennan was worth taking in the 6th. You never know; and it was only a 6th rounder...so you aren't out much if he doesn't amount to anything.
