Commanders offer Cousins a long term deal

You saying Dak lead the Cowboys to the playoffs and losing in the first game, is almost as bad as a Ravens fan saying Trent Dilfer led their team to a championship. It's technically true, but lacks context.

Yes, he had 4 INTs in an offense that was much less reliant on him because he's still learning. RG3 only had 5 INTs his rookie season, Nick Foles only had 2 INTs his first year as a starter. How did that work out for them? Basing future success with a bigger role on a player's success with a limited playbook and no game film has proven to be a bad idea time after time. Don't say he was in a non-gimmick offense. Your coaches never opened up that playbook. The Dallas offense was not the same as it was with Romo, and it didn't have to be, Zeke and your OL made things much easier for Dak. Wentz wished he had the same riches on offense.

You say Kirk was less efficient, yet due to no running game, he threw 157 more times than Dak and still had the same completion percentage. Again I ask, because you ignored the question, could Dak have run Gruden's offense last season. You and I both know the answer is no.

You're a homer and you're backing the future of your franchise, and I get it. Dak has a bright future, but the truth of the matter he is not a better QB than Kirk TODAY.
Well he was better than Kirk last year. Of course over all Kirk has had more success. Also has failed more. We'll see what the future holds but Kirk is what he is. We'll have to see what the future holds for Dak.

I don't agree that he was better than Kirk, but I can agree to the rest. I don't think Kirk has more upside from here. He is who he is. A guy who will move the chains, rack up a ton of yards, completely destroy the bottom half ranked defense, but not step up in big games. That last part is why I really didn't want the Skins to sign him to a huge contract. I want to keep him because despite being just a good QB, he's destroyed passing records for our team. And the chances of getting a better QB in this day and age are slim. I'd much rather spend that money on improving the rest of the team and roll the dice on a new QB than look like the Ravens with Flacco.

I qualified my post citing Dak's INT numbers with the "gimmick" line in which, both, Foles and RG3 relied on. Thus, their inflated numbers. Dak operated out of a conventional NFL offense.

Also, we were very reliant on Dak, lest we forget our dismal 2015 season. You're swinging for the fences with the notion that Dak was merely a bus driver. Something everyone outside of Cowboys Nation wants to believe, that's simply not true. Dak and Kirk had very similar Y/A. An indicator of whether a QB is just checking down or actually making intermediate to deep passes.

Finally, I didn't ignore your question, it's simply too speculative to answer.

That's fine, we'll see how things turn out this season. I feel Dak may regress a little as he grows as a passer and there is more film on him. At least I hope he does, lol.

Nib, save "homer" and all that nonsense for another poster, or I'll simply stop replying to you. It's lazy and unbecoming. Be civil.

And I totally agree with that list. As I said Cousins is average. He's somewhere in the middle.
I did forget Big Ben. That aside I put Cousins at the top of the pack with the Tannehills, Bortles, Bridgewaters of the NFL, I would throw Dak in there too because he is very young still.

We discussed Dak a lot in this thread, with different opinions on how we thought his performance was last season and what he could do his season.

I saw a video from a Youtuber I trust when it comes to film breakdowns. He recently did a video on Dak's season and I feel he made a lot of great points.

Cousins will practice this year to play for Pittsburgh next year.

By no means did dak play in a gimmick offense. We did have the best ALL AROUND talent but kirk cousins easily had the best receiving core and tight end core in the league last year. Vernon Davis looked like the old Vernon davis.

Good video. Found his criticisms fair.

Ha! Gimmick offense. What a hoot. Cousins is slightly above average and is taking a big chance. Prescott will win a SB!

Running read option is not a gimmick. It is ran by the majority of the teams in this league, and teams find it helpful using it to ease young QBs into a bigger role as a passer over time. You can ignore that Dak ran read option last season, but it's a fact and it is what it is.
